No. Teams can offer him deals as of Sunday night but he can't sign anywhere until July 1st.

He may not sign until July 1st but he could say where he's going to sign. I doubt he does though.

I think Vancouver is the most likely destination.

I want to get my hopes up high but I'll prepare myself for him signing with Van/Tor.

If he signs here it will be a pleasant surprise.

Actually I think he will do that. My guess is that we know by Friday who is going to sign with. And it would not surprise me if it was the Oilers.

TO drafting Rielly and Finn gives them a pretty saturated defense in the near future. Talk of Garrison to Vancouver also helps.

If the Canucks fan in him outweighs everything you're probably right. We have a lot going for us though so I'm sure he'll give Edmonton some consideration. Just the thought of joining Hall, Eberle, RNH and Yakupov while they're all 18-22 years old is probably more appealing than joining a team with a core that is over 30 years old.

Agreed. Think we will come out the runners up in this one unfortunately.

I think Schultz is going to sign with us, especially with Toronto taking Morgan Rielly. If he wants to play in the NHL next season he will come to us.

It seems the focus of the draft was to select big forwards who have skill. I'm really surprised we didn't draft more defense with those picks. This must mean that management is comfortable with how our current defense prospects are coming along or maybe they know they'll be able to get Schultz.

My guess is it will come down to whether or not Vancouver can convince him there's a spot on the roster for him.

Exactly. He'd be the #6 in Vancouver and basically no hope in TO... That leaves us as a pretty good choice. Especially when you consider that we didn't take Murray or Finn

The fact that the Oil did not address Dmen at all this draft makes me feel as though they know something. Dman are the critical issue in oil country right now and they were barely even touched during the draft. It seems pretty likely that if it is true that schultz wants to play in Canada, the Oilers actually might be in the running.

Van is the only other plausible destination. Toronto drafted Finn and Reilly, giving them a pretty strong set of prospects on top of their already strong stable of NHL dmen.

I kind of thought that myself, with all those high-ranked d-men up for grabs and the Oilers sticking with forwards until the later rounds when everyone was sure they would be drafting more d-men. I was thinking "the Oilers are covertly sending a message to Schultz by drafting forwards. Well played, Mr. Tambellini!" Watch Murray try and use Tambellini's lack of drafting d-men as tampering

Well hopefully we'll have the coaching situation cleared up soon and we can add Schultz. Adding Schultz would be a huge coup for us. I still think that we are the odds on favorites to land him, HM to Vancouver.

They do know something: that they already have enough defense prospects.

Canucks

- Closest to Home
- Great powerplay (ELC Bonuses) however Edler is there #1 PP guy
- Ability to play with proven scorers in the Sedins etc
- A few spots open on D however Vancouver has always brought young guys along slowly (See Hodgson, Kassian, etc)

Oilers

- Next closest to home
- Great Powerplay (ELC Bonuses)
- Ability to grow with an unheard of amount of young superstar talent all around his age
- Gaping hole on defense especially as a #1 PP guy, almost guaranteed a top 4 roster spot, guaranteed PP time
- His favourite place to "visit" is Edmonton

Putting my bias aside if I was him I would choose Edmonton just for the fact that the core of the team is so young and it gives you the ability to grow with these guys, plus you would be given a greater opportunity. But I guess we will see!

Upgrading their top 6 for a guy that fell out of favor, good trade for Burke IMO.

I doubt it. If he does he could very well be surpassed by Reilly in short order.
