Last year was talking about how he could have been a 1st round pick.

Kind of small.

Judging from Elite Prospects:

Undersized C/RW

Shoots right

Put up 8-8-16 in 31 NLA games

Was 2-2-4 in 6 games at WJC-20

Christoph Bertschy – Bern – Switzerland NLA – 5’-10” 170 lbs

A big time difference maker with the Swiss squad at the World Juniors this past Holiday season in Calgary. He brings strong offensive skills such as speed, an offensively creative mind, slick hands, a rocket of a wrist shot and some underrated playmaking ability. He also brings a hard fore-check and never stop motor but has grown a bit of a lazy reputation in his approach to practice and body development. If an NHL team likes him as a bottom six forward he could be a solid late round project.

Why did he went this late? He was pretty impressive in WJC and his stats in NLA looks good. Good late round pick i guess.

That's what I read. Great offensive skills, lazy attitude. Boom or bust.

BTW if he ever makes it to the Wild; Baertschi vs Bertschy LOL

Never heard of him, but Ill trust the scouts. Also I think it's not a bad idea to pick up a boom or bust player this late in the draft.

Absolutely! Perfect time to take a flyer out on a pick like this.

Boom or bust potential (sounds like)

Over the course of dinner tonight out with some friends watching UFC, I went and looked up as many scouting reports on this guy as I could. That said, I could only find 5-6 reports, but all seemed to be mostly positive.

They all praised his creativity and offensive game, especially when he worked on the powerplay, yet they all called him out for work ethic and competitiveness. I could see him spending a year or two more over in Switzerland, and then coming over to the AHL to be seasoned for 2-3 more years. Although I have never really wanted this for any player, I would love to see him come over and play juniors of some kind, I don't think he'll do it and I don't blame him.

He seems like he could potentially be a low end 2nd liner, high end 3rd line guy. As someone said in another thread, we really haven't had many guys in the pipeline that could play in the bottom six. This guy seems like, down the road if everything goes right, he could be a solid bottom six guy who could move up a line or two if injuries occurred. Personally, that sounds great to me.

I'll keep an eye out for him, hopefully he can continue to develop.

Seems like a good late round shot. Switzerland isn't a powerhouse, but being noticeable in the WJC is a sign you want to see.

Hey Guys
just wanted to give my opinion on Bertschy. He played for SC Bern this year in the Swiss League. Bern made the finals where Bertschy did not play very much. He did play some games in the regular season and I was quite impressed given his age. Fast, good hands und great moves/ideas offensively and not intimidated at all. He should make the team (SC Bern) next year as a regular player and I expect him to have a major impact.

Thanks SwissAvsFan.

So we have to years to decide on this guy?

Here's hoping for a rare bit of luck in drafting outside of Slovakia, Finland and Sweden for the Wild.

Start fishing in the Swiss tank !

Bertschy is a very smart player. Maybe too smart, therefore a strong mentor on his back wouldn't hurt him nor his development.
