I'm sure they have no issues leaving him with the 67's. He's playing out of the scotiabank place so he'll have access to all the same facilities/training staff if required.

That's going to be a sucker, especially since Mika's getting his deal the year before.

It's okay, re-signing Spezza for 1.9m should help a bit.

Wow...

"We had him extremely high on our list, I'm not afraid to say we had him in our top five" - Tim Murray.

Tim talking about him as a "top-5 on our list", I'm not sure if he intended it to be phrased like that or if he meant more of a "one of the guys we liked at 15". Probably the latter.

Yea its hard to know exactly what they mean. Saying it like that probably gives Cody some more confidence even if he did mean it the 2nd way you mentioned.

GMBM said they had Ceci ranked almost as high as Yakupov really not far below him and didn't expect him to fall out of the top 10.

Well they did seem very excited that he was still available. I think maybe they did have him in their top 5.

They also said in an interview that they think Ceci could be able to crack the roster next year.

The fact the we probably only have 4 or 5 NHL defenseman it doesn't surprise me.

What's really interesting is that Ottawa said there not going to be busy in free agency and don't need a really high skill defenseman.

I personally think Ceci should be on the 67's, always worry about developement.

Has anybody been able to find a video showing the draft table laughing prior to the pick? All videos I've seen only have them taking to the stage.

Tim Murray said Ceci was in the top 5 on their list

I think Murray said something like 'we need someone to play' but the question seemed to lead him there. Of course every player drafted has a chance to play but it requires an exceptional training camp and even then they are hesitant.

I think it's safe to say Cody will be playing with the 67's, perfect place to watch him develop.

He seems to choose his words pretty carefully in that statement. Unless he was lying, Ceci was in their top 5. Pretty remarkable.

Quotes from Kilrea:

Quote:
"I told a couple of people before the draft, if you like Drew Doughty, you're gonna love Cody Ceci," said Kilrea.

"He'll be one of the top defencemen in the NHL, he's just that good. He's big, strong, he's a great skater with a tremendous shot, passes the puck well, and yeah, he's not a physical player, but he always manages to take his man out and get between his man and the puck. Eventually he'll add that (physical) dimension to his game.

"But what he's got, some players will never get."

Ceci was always one of the best defencemen available in the draft, and the more that comes out on him the more it seems like it was the pick for us to make if we were going for the defensive side of things. He's just a great all-around D-man and I think it will show when he makes it to the show.

I think he will spend another year in juniors, but he's not far away from the NHL and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he made the team out of camp. He's that good -- and he's only going to get better. I honestly didn't think that he'd drop to us so it's a pretty nice turn of events.

i would be shocked if prince is back with the 67s this year, and if he is, its a sign the sens are down on him. i think there's a good chance ceci is still with the 67s because he's probably a lock for the WJC, he's a local kid, and he'll be playing in the same building so we can keep a really close eye on him.
Yes there are some 16 years olds in the Chl but there is also many 17-20 year olds if there is a lock out next year the Chl could be a very good league as you will see many players that if there was not a lock out would be in the NHl.

He will stay with the 67's for at least another year. Having him play small amounts of minutes will do nothing to help his development.

Let's also not forget that (as of now at least) he is all but a lock to make the World Junior team. Playing in a tournament of that level is something I'm sure the Sens want.

Can't wait until he's in the big league. Expecting big things considering how our last 15th overall panned out.
