I think Semin has to take a pay cut (no more than about $5M) to play here. The point is the team is on the cusp of being an elite team and if he plays well here he could cash in big time in the NHL. I highly doubt this happens.

I you can grab him on a 1 or 2 year deal, do you take it? The options seem to be limited at this point. You can make him the dominant shot on the PP, and I think he could do very well. I think he has a little more edge than he's shown, and he won't cost the world. He's no Nash or Ryan, but i those deals don't work out, then would this be an acceptable alternate? I think so.

Without Nash or Ryan, this would till be a very competent top 6...

If we can't get Nash or Ryan then yes. Semin is a legit scoringthreat with a great shot. However Torts would be driven mad by him .

Which is why Washington is just crossing their fingers in hopes they can re-sign him, right?

Anybody who mentions Frolov in comparison to other Russians is just clueless. Frolov was the OPPOSITE of the Zherdevs and Semins of the world in his time here- good along the boards, good down low, just couldn't score.

I can't believe this myth keeps going just because they're all Russian. Frolov compared to Semin is like comparing Cally to Bobby Ryan because they're both American.

With Hunter as the coach of the Caps, you saw a lot better effort from Semin. I think with Torts as our coach, he would play hard and adapt to the system. We need scoring pretty badly, and with his shot, he can pot 30 goals. I think it would be a great signing.

If Parise sticks to his word, i can definitely see Semin on the Rangers, rather hinted rangers will be very active.

I'd be all for Semin on this team if he's willing to sign a team friendly deal.

You know, I wonder if taking Sather's comments about being aggressive combined with Torts's comments at season's end about fitting in guys who don't traditionally play the way the Rangers play don't mean that this hasn't been their plan B all along...

I'd like to see the Rangers go after Semin as well, but not more than a 3-year deal. I know there are issues about his effort and whatnot, but sometimes you have to take a gamble.

Whenever I watch us play the Caps, I worry more about where he is on the ice than Ovechkin. I think he'd play hard for Torts; and bring a skill-set that we are sorely lacking.

if hes on a good deal i wouldnt mind him on the team. i think the culture of our team and the mix of players we have will keep him working hard and he wont get away with dumb plays. hed be far and away our most skilled forward. his wrist shot is just amazing.

I'm all for it if its one or two years no more then 5 mil a year.

Even though there is a question about character, but I think this locker room and Torts will keep that under control.

But overall, at the right price, all for it.

He fits a need. A right-handed sniper who can pot 30+ goals per season. The question is whether or not he can buy in to the system and stay healthy while he's doing it. Unfortunately, I'd be shocked if he could.

I think the Red Wings desperately want Suter and Parise. If Parise goes to the Penguins, which unfortunately is a very real possibility, DRW will sign Semin.

I think the only way the Rangers go after Semin is if they can't get Ryan, can't find a way to get Nash (which is hopefully the case), and don't get Parise.

considering we won't be getting Nash or Ryan and the fact that Semin has a terrible work ethic, I think we are just going to have to see what Kreider can do with an offseason under his belt.

And with the Caps in our division this year, he will be extra motivated

I wouldn't rule out Semin. It seems like Sather wants to make a big splash this offseason. If he strikes out on Parise, Nash and Ryan...I think he would try to sign Semin. Torts has to be 100% on board though, if not it will turn into a mess.

Semin's got the best wrist shot in the game. He will add something we are desperately missing. He needs to stop with the stupid penalties though. That would drive Torts crazy.

He would get a shot to play with Richards because of Gaborik's injury. If they can develop chemistry together, you can play Gaborik when he comes back with Stepan. You could potentially spread out the scoring more.

I wouldn't be against adding Semin and hopefully Schultz because we wouldn't be subtracting any major pieces from last year's team. We could potentially be adding 30-40 goal scorer to a team that made the ECF.

No way Semin would sign a 1 year deal. Maybe, 3 years for 13-15 million.

i really wouldnt be opposed to signing Semin (~5mil/yr) AND making a deal for Nash.

Sign Schultz, Semin, Konopka, Fedotenko and trade for Nash (AA, Dubi, Miller, next years first)

Go with something like...

Semin - Richards - Gaborik
Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Hagelin - Boyle - Callahan
Rupp - Konopka - Fedotenko

McDonagh - Girardi
Staal - Schultz
MDZ - Erixon

Semin would be a good pickup. the guy is a consistent goal scorer in this league with a lethal shot. Tortorella said that even though the identity of the team is set they have to be open minded to incorporate players who offer things they don't have (scoring) at the expense of
not being too strong in the defensive aspect (backchecking) of the game.

Semin isn't protoypical tororella player, but he's no Zherdev, or Radulov either. he is what he is and has shortcomings, but the guy is talented, and if he can score 25-35g consistently for us, what would we complain about?

How do we fit Gaborik, Semin, Richards and Nash on the same team?
