I know there are a lot of mixed emotions on this one, as their is on our side.
Today, you guys gained a kid who will go through a wall for your organization. He's a class act both on and off the ice. The work he did with sick kids in Toronto, going on military visits overseas, etc. was priceless.
We're sad to see him go, but happy to welcome a big forward with lots of potential.
Best of luck this coming season (except when we play one another, of course!)
I would much rather see how JVR pans out than grab Luke Schenn. It's not like we're saving that much cap space either.
Tha's what I'm thinking. I'm annoyed because, once again the Flyers show lack of patience. This is the #2 pick from the 2007 draft with power forward potential. He broke out in the playoffs last year, and was injured all of this year.

Opens a little cap space... I think this is the start of another big move...
Not really - about $600K per year. That shouldn't have anything to do with another big move. If anything, it depletes our F depth and bolsters our D depth enough that were less likely to move things.
I think you guys will love Schenn. The opinion on him has been negatively skewed simply for being a Leaf.
He needs to work on his mobility; but otherwise he is a smart defenceman who can lay almost anyone down on their ass. I'll miss the guy; good luck to him in your organization!
They'll get over it. Its just their affection for the player they liked.
IMO i think i am going to love seeing Schenn in the orange and black.
I've been saying a Schenn for JvR deal would be a real good idea since the deadline. I still think we should have gotten a mid-round pick as well, but I can live with it. Schenn could turn into a top pairing guy. JvR could turn into a top line winger. Or neither could. Or one could. Schenn is 22. Ease up.
You'd really have to be an idiot to sign a long term deal with the Flyers now.
Yup. Also, make sure Homer is tied up on June 23rd.
JvR will likely play with Kessel and Lupul on the top line for the Leafs. Good luck to him. I never watch the Leafs despite living in Toronto but I think the change will do him good. He wilted under Ron Wilson and was a healthy scratch from time to time.
Folks, can somebody tell me what is wrong with Holmgren ? I just dont understand this one bit. Philly needs defense but Schenn isnt a defensive stud IMO and does not have much offense either. I just dont get it.

This, definitely.
If this move occurred in isolation, it would be one thing, but this reflects an alarming trend of what have you done for me lately..... and for the record, it's the same lack of good decision making that got JVR signed to that silly extension when it was.
Idk jvr had a lot of promise but if you look at his injury history and the fact that they were back and forth with him needing surgery that does sound like a questionable future so his value is probably not as high as we all thought. He has done VERY little offensively.
On the other side Schenn was supposed to be a top pairing guy. I think he still has time to reach that. But either way when it comes time to sign Braydon I'm sure having his brother here will get us a discount.....
If it didn't happen during the Richards/Carter saga, any chance of Giroux, Voracek, and Schenn signing long term for a home town discount just went out the window.

Worst trade in franchise history?
Yeah. Sometimes around here is over dramatic lol. JVR is a very good young player but he just didn't impress me that much anymore. I think he could be a solid 70 or 80 point career guy. I don't think he will ever reach that phenom status. Luke Schenn will be a future shutdown guy for us.
I'm honestly terrified about what this means for Giroux's future here... "Sign an extension and get traded" seems to be a reputation this franchise now has.
Come on people, Burke just signed Schenn to an extension, too. The fact of the matter is we were strong and young up front and weak and old on the backend. This trade is risky, but it makes sense.
I hope Schenn is willing to sign a team-friendly long-term extension sometime in the next year. That could redeem some value out of this trade... sigh.
It's so easy to see this deal haunting us.
When Richards and Carter were dealt, I was shocked and upset, but at least with the return we got, I was intrigued by how things would work out.
In this case, I am almost sure we will lose the deal. Hope I'm wrong.
Edit: I guess the extension he already signed should wind up being team-friendly.
I was hoping JVR would be packaged for something bigger.
Given the choice between flipping JVR for L. Schenn straight up, or using JVR, Mez / Read, and picks and prospects for Nash, I think this is the wise course, no?
