So, I reiterate: it has nothing to do with it.
That's difficult to understand....

The Ranger's offered Brad Richards a contract that Burke wouldn't match because of his policy on long term cap structured deals - but the NHL accepted it. Would it now be o.k for the Leafs to trade for Richards and a contract that they weren't prepared to offer during free agency?

I have heard nothing from Burke or Nonis involving the teams policies on trading for players carrying long term suspect contracts, if you could post a link for me to read I would appreciate it.

We have our Kulemin already. I doubt Gillis is interested.

We ice AMEX as our 2nd line.

We pick up a great tweener like Kulemin for our 3rd/4th line.

We roll 4 lines that can score.

Colin Wilson must be target of Burke's. No, I have no idea of his value to the Preds but I think he'd be exactly what Burke wants to bring to the Leafs.
JVR for Wilson.

As much as I may dislike the Canucks, your logo and colours are sexy.

I doubt a Luongo trade is going down.....maybe a Gardner for Berglund or something like that?

Except calling Kulemin a 7 goal scorer isn't a hyperbole...he actually produced only 7 goals last year. Luongo isn't a backup goalie. He hasn't played less than half a season since he was a rookie. #facts

Okay, Okay we already have a Luongo thread and a Leafs Goaltending thread. Do we really need to turn this into another?

Leafs are desperate to make playoffs, if they fall short this year axe may be coming down on Burke.

I don't think the Leafs are done dealing yet either, still can't say they are a playoff team with that lineup... need #1 center and #1 goalie.

If they get Luongo, I think you may be able to pencil them in 8-6 slot, but that's it.

Maybe i'll be wrong, but I doubt it's Luongo. It seems pretty obvious that Gillis has a high price right now and Burke isn't willing to pay it.

Can you get a memo to AV because he seemed incapable of understanding, "Higgins. Second line. Keep him there."

It's not a hyperbole it's true. In what way is Luongo a backup goalie? He has been an elite starter in the league for over 10 years and played over 50 games last season.

Kulemin has scored 30 goals once and followed it up with a 7 goal season.

Burke and Gillis went down a tunnel to discuss something before the draft. About a third of the way through the draft reporters came out saying that the offer was Schenn for Luongo. Gillis said no.
Burke made no comment on Luongo other than to say he couldn't comment because Luongo is under contract with Vancouver. I've yet to read or hear anything from legitimate NHL sources confirming or denying that Burke has made an offer for Luongo. It's possible that Burke and Gillis were making dinner plans.

Yes it would. For what it's worth, I also think Burke's rationale is a little odd and inconsistent, but it is what it is.

Nonis was on TSN radio a few days ago and said this very thing. I've not got a link to the broadcast itself, but here's a recap from the Leaf boards: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1212939

Luongo was replaced and relegated to backup duty in the playoffs this season. Your most important games.
Do I really think Lu is a back up goalie or will be for the rest of his career? No!
But do you really think Kulemin's worst pro season will be indicative of the rest of his career?

The other Blues' need is a center. Berglund isn't going anywhere. Perhaps Stewart though (although he just signed the 1 year extension).
