The other players at the Jets development camp had better keep their heads up.

Chevy wasn't joking when he said he wanted size.

Sutter was the heaviest guy drafted in the second round.

They interviewed him on NHL Network, says he likes to model his game after Brian Boyle and Ryan O'Reilly. Also said he has to work on his skating.

Jets will be bigger and meaner in about 3-4 years from now.

Love it. Man this team will be brutal to play against in a few years. Once we are in the playoffs we will punish teams over a series.

Can't complain here at all, but personally would have preferred a player like Nieves with more offensive upside. That said, Sutter is the type of player teams win with.

There was some concern with bad penalties, but hopefully that's something he learns to harness without taking away his feisty edge.

Is he one of "those" Sutters, or just a regular Sutter ?

Sutter was ranked 39th best skater in North America. There were better players on the board. I am assuming he was taken due to the fact he went from 86th best to 39th best. Shortly after the other player in the Top 50 who made a huge jump Brock McGinn was taken 47th by Carolina.

Really, really, really like this pick.

Wanted the Jets to take him or Matteau with their 2nd going in to the draft, and obviously Matteau was off the board on day 2.

And holy moly! He's not averse to chucking 'em, 27 scraps in 2 WHL seasons:

A bit early, but not that early. You guys will LOVE him.

Quote:
Sutter grew his game this year, showing he has more offence than originally thought. Played the role as shutdown center, while still putting up 59 points. On offence, he showed improved footspeed and overall quickness, while also looking much more comfortable handling the puck this season. Scored many of his goals by using a quick release from within 12 feet of the net. He's physical and can play an agitators role, although he could be more consistent in that area of his game. Might not have the highest upside, but is one of the safer bets to one day be an NHL player. Son of longtime NHL player Rich Sutter.

NHL Style Comparable: Steve Ott

Top End Potential: Top 9 C

Pick Prediction: 3rd Round

I like this pick.

Saw his interview on JetsTV.

Seems like a level headed kid.

Yes! I wanted Lukas Sutter. This kid plays the game to win.

Trouba, Lowry, Sutter... I love the direction we're taking with these picks.

Listened to his interview , to add to the tangible "Sutter" qualities , he is extremely well spoken. Shows poise , insight , and intelligence . I really feel those aspects added to the the legitimate grit and edge he he plays with will play a big part in his development.

He stated he is committed to Team Canada this summer and will travel to Russia for some games there. Not that it isn't known , but it was reiterated by his dad Rich , that he strongly believes it is in the summer months when hockey players really develop from season to season. We should have no doubts that Lukas Sutter will be taking full advantage of that and working as hard as possible.

Like you mentioned and I said this many months ago , we have a pattern for the Jets and this draft once again emphasizes this. Once the base is more firmly established , then we may see a slant to more skill and flash for a couple selections , but character , leadership , toughness ,mentally and physically are the requisites.

For all the talk about the top six forwards , we also need to improve the bottom six imo , bigger , nastier , plus a bump in skill is the plan too... I also very much like it

Both Scheifele and Sutter will be playing for that team, very cool.

Sutter & Scheif both have a busy summer upcoming it appears. Barring an NHL work stoppage - they face the Jets rookie development camp in July, then the Canada/Russia series in Aug, then training camp in September.

I like him. I've been watching a lot of videos of his this afternoon, in this one he doesn't hesitate to stick up for a teammate who gets elbowed even though he kinda gets his ass handed to him.

Also, some fuel for an Edmonton-Winnipeg rivalry

Is Scheifele shrinking? Listed at 6' 1.5. I thought he was 6'2 or 6'3?

I noticed that the other day too. No idea, LOL. Several of my family members are 6'1 and he definitely seemed a chunk taller then them (without skates obviously) but who knows.

At this rate he'll be 5'9 by training camp!
