Seem like a nice pick, woes tho we drafted a guy who played with gustavsson last year in lulea, we pick busseries(sp) who fought dumba, two cake eaters, guy who played with coyle....

I'm not saying its the aliens running our draft board but it's the aliens

Asked about him in the Swedish Prospects thread. Appears to project as a 4/5 D man - big, can skate, can shoot, not physical. Was one of last cuts from Swedish WJC team.

I like it, we missed that big body in front of the net, hope he makes it to our 3rd pairing.

He considers himself an offensive defemsena, one of the last cuts for the Swedish WJC.

Came into Lulea as a 19 year old, but when injuries started to happen, he stepped in and ever since, took advantage of that and now has become a regular on a talented Lulea defense. Not easy to do.

Damn haters brodin isn't physical either, this kid appears to be able to think the game which goes a long way. Just because he isn't physical doesn't mean he can't take away angles and lanes that make him effective

I think the concern is that we don't have any physical defensemen (Dumba aside) in our system.

It seems like a lot of people didn't know about this kid, and it may seem crazy, but I was pumped when we got him. He's a little bit of a longshot (evidenced by his draft position) but he's about as good as Brodin offensively already (though not a good comparison), and he's big. Could be a Swedish Marty Skoula, and while a lot of guys hate Skoula, I liked him and he was definitely NHL serviceable.

All we know is that he is big, got lots of room to fill, was a surprise youngster on the Lulea team, became a regular on a tough defense to crack.

Little is know about his actual talents, but he seems to have done very well this year.

Wild love those foreign kids that play well in professional leagues and play alot of minutes against older men. Gunnarsson is one of those type of kids.

This is amazing, both Gustavsson and Gunnarsson are old classmates to me

Anyway Gunnarsson is a very good pick, was hoping we would take him last draft, he have been so good this year he was called up to the national team and even managed to score in his first match for Sweden

His a very good skater with good hands but not physical at all.

I'm happy with this pick, he's one of the guys that got much better this past year and 2. He's a big body but doesn't use it so much (only 10 hits in 46 games). He's pretty offensive minded and has a good eye for the game. Also has a good shot from the point. Solid d-man who doesn't get caught out of position often in his own end. Very strong upper body.

See just learn to position and start a havoc when some pesky little Nugent-Hopkins tries to drive to the net!

I think I want Suter even more than I want Parise. Right now we're "Mr. Gilbert's Nursery". It's nice to have some promising young d-men, but somebody needs to be able to mentor them on the ice.

ISS had him as a riser back in 2010:

Quote:
Daniel Gunnarsson, RD – Leksand
Another of the increasingly popular tall and mobile young Swedish defenders, Gunnarsson has been compared to Jonathan Ericsson of the Detroit Red Wings. He has made his pro debut with Leksand this year as well as his international debut with the Swedish U18 program. He is not on many people’s radars but a strong showing in April in Minsk could change all of that. Add Gunnarsson to the list of secret Swedish prospects that will likely appear in the mid to late rounds.
Cue the secret Swedish prospect music.
