Interesting. I was going to post that offensively, in open ice, and in terms of body positioning/stance/stride/release/etc. he looks very much like a young Alfredsson. I don't remember Alfredsson turning into a more focused "2-way" player until after his first NHL playoff run in '97, but Collberg actually has a bit of a rep for defensive lapses, so that's one area where the comparison breaks down, imo. But anyway, bottom line is that I had Collberg rated more early/mid-20s, so getting him at 33rd is pretty damn good. He has a great, accurate wrister that takes advantage of those fake slap delays he likes to do. Should be interesting to see how he develops, and how he adapts to more patient professional goaltenders.

edit: Oh wow. Just noticed how close Dansk came to dropping to us. Don't think he would have been too happy about being drafted by the team with Carey Price, but I don't know how we could have passed on him at that point.

You're probably shorter than you think.

Thing is we are all build differently from each other. Gally's frame is bigger than thicker than Collberg. Still, size shouldn't be an issue for the players we took this year.

Dany Dube on 98.5 FM sharing his convo with Timmins about Collberg just now:

''Dany, I had trouble sleeping last night. I couldn't believe we had a chance to take him in round 2.''

Timmins excitement for this kid really, really makes me believe in the potential I saw in him at the WJC. I knew that Forsberg was the bigger name, but I kept saying to my friend, "This Collberg kid is stealing the show".

I took Collberg high in our mock draft because I really crushed hard on this kid. I value Timmins' selections highly and if he is that excited about this guy, then we have a player. Grant said he was Timmins favorite player in the draft.

Timmins was a part of the staff that got Hossa and Alfredsson for Ottawa. He compared Gallys situation to Hossa. He compared Collberg to Alfredsson.

The addition of these two offensive players to our pool takes the pressure off Gallagher and Kristo to become top line scorers.

Timmis said he was already taller than 6'1... I don't know what to believe.

The difference might be if they measured him in shoes or not.

Gally 6'1 Collby 5'11 for now okay?

Watching/Hearing Timmins gushing over the players just shows how much passion he has for what he does.

He's slightly above average height. He's a gym rat so hes gonna be thick and strong.

People get WAY to hung up on height. Who is the more physical forward, Dustin Brown (6.00) or Jeff Carter (6.03). Its more about muscle and weight and how you use it. Galy is big because of his height, but also because he is well built. Collberg on the other hand really needs to add some weight because he was getting tossed around in the SEL.

Possible it's just that I would think that a guy like Timmins would know his right height.

Anyway with the age (and babyface) thoses guys have, there is a huge chance that it's not their final height. Looking at Hudon he might get 3 inch from now . Thrower might be the exception.

Collberg looks like a future replacement for Gionta.

Timmins specifically said that he expects a little more growth out of Alex. Given all the attention that was given Alex's operation, it's entirely possible that they saw an unfused epiphyseal plate to support that. And generally the "upper-limit" for fusion of the long-bone plates is somewhere around 19.5 years.

...he is also very baby-faced.

However, he is pretty thick, and I would wager very strong too.

Sorry but Ghallagher is the Gionta replacement. Collberg is our long missing Mats Naslund.

Indeed, 18 LBS heavier with 1.5 inch more. Quite the giant.

Honestly, from watching the video, he reminds me a lot of Claude Giroux, who was pretty much the same size when he was drafted. Collberg looks sneaky quick, and really sees the ice well. His lack of size will be really unimportant down the road, because he looks to have the hockey sense to get rid of the puck quickly.

He doesnt lack size. He's just not a giant in this league.

5'11 is not small at all... You look at a 6 foot player, nobody says hes small. I can't believe how 1 inch can make people change perspective about a player. Collberg is 6 foot hes probably gone by #25
