You don't pay that kind of money for someone who projects to anything. You pay that kind of money for a proven commodity.

Its a 2 way contract. $925,000 is the max salary. $850,000 is the first group of bonuses. The 2nd group of bonuses are worth up to $2M. The Rangers gave Zuccarello $900,000 MAX(2010 MAX) and the $850,000 in bonuses. $1,750,000 cap hit. Other teams offered the same contract.

Bob now says its Sunday night

Quote:
Justin Schultz becomes UFA at midnight Sunday night. Blue-chip D prospect to meet with agent(s) in Toronto on Tuesday. Will field offers Wed

I would have Torts,Slats,Gorton,Messier,Graves,Stepan and McDonagh go to the Newport Sports offices on Wednesday. I would have Newport Sports clients Henrik Lundqvist and Dan Girardi call Schultz.

2 years. $925,000 Max salary. $850,000 and $2,000,000 in bonuses. He will get the opportunity to earn top 4 minutes. Look at all of the young players who have made an impact with the Rangers. McKenzie talked about Schultz wanting to make an immediate impact. Look at Kreider. Doesn't more immediate than that. He was attending class on a Tuesday and 6 days later he was playing in the NHL playoffs.

Send also Tom Coughlin, Eli Manning and Justin Tuck and let them stay out in the car with Torts and the Lombardi trophies, just in case Justin tries to escape!

The thing about Schultz is that money will not be the issue here. Every team that makes an offer on him will do so knowing it will have to absorb a $3.8 million salary cap hit next season - $925,000 in base salary, $850,000 in signing bonus and $2 million in performance bonuses – on a three-year deal.
2 year ELC. Those numbers look familar

$3,775,000

Quote:
That will become clear in the coming days. There has been speculation Schultz is looking for a guarantee he’ll be on an NHL roster next season, but the reality is no team can do that. Every entry-level deal, without exception, must be a two-way contract, meaning it is subject to a minor league salary of $67,500 if he doesn’t play in the NHL.
$70,000 is the AHL salary

Give the kid a condominium in the city, rent-free (A real condominium; not those apartments that only have a big living room and they try to pull a fast-one by calling it a condominium and selling it at a ridiculous price.)

Also, somewhere where there isn't a presence of hipsters; we don't want him to have to go through the faux-bohemian ******** that they spew.

i doubt u can do that. thats definitely got to be incentives in a contract that would circumvent the salary cap.

You mean a studio apartment? Not sure what that has to do with it being called a condominium. lol

Everyone on the main board seems to think he will go to a Canadian city.

That's what we've been hearing for quite some time now from various people who may or may not have any real connections to the Schultz camp. Guess we'll find out if that's true in a few days.

so let's say wayne gretzky is 20 years old and in schultz' situation... you offer him less than max because he isn't proven in this league? i find that hard to believe.

i'm slowly losing hope in signing schultz-- especially after picking two defensemen.

Pretty sure he can't Sign until July 1, but he can start talking to teams after tomorrow night at midnight. I believe his agent is having meetings with interested teams early in the week...Tuesday or Wednesday.

Schultz needs to be Sather's top priority. He is everything we are missing on the blueline.

With Girardi as the only righty, Schultz is basically a lock to make the team. He would have to be awful to get sent down to Hartford.

I get Vancouver being appealing to him, but the kid is an idiot if he picks Toronto or Edmonton over the Rangers.

This Schultz kid seems to think he is entitled to a roster spot without having to earn it, who does he think he is?

Toronto yeah but i wouldn't blame he for going to Edmonton, Edmonton is an up and coming team, within the next 5 years they will be pretty good.

I'd throw Leetch in there somewhere.

I would agree with that. If he cares about WINNING and getting ICE TIME. Rangers and Canucks should be his two top choices.

that may be the worst comparison possible to make your point... because in using just Gretzky's name, it brings to mind all of his accomplishments and standing during his already past, great NHL career.
