Still think we should get guys like Read and Wellwood more of a chance. Very versatile players that need to develop everything in their game. Let Simmonds and Voracek get those top minutes. Maybe another winger that can score would be needed but i don't think we need to break the bank for a guy like Parise. Get a decent guy who can pivot from the third and second line. We need help on the lower lines. I'm a fan of Rinaldo but we need to get a little more reliable in the bottom 6. Especially at center.

Would Anaheim take
Voracek + mezsaros + 1st and 2nd 2013?
That's a pretty significant overpayment...though it might be what it takes.

Two offers come to mind:

1) Voracek, Mezsaros, 3rd

2) Read, Mezsaros, 2nd [or even 1st?]

Obviously the second is better for us--particularly if Carle has / will be resigned.

Mezsaros probably holds a bit more value now than two days ago for Anaheim. They are a bit thin on ?NHL-read blue-liners at the moment.

I cant see Read getting demoted at all after a solid rookie season. Im a huge wellwood fan but I do question is point potenial. Plus i think he could be more important on a shutdown line with talbot (with couturier focusing more on his offense progressing while playing solid defense).

There are some lower teir guys avaible though that could be some solid adds to the top 9. Guys like hudler.

Just hoping theres someone who steps up and helps giroux offensively.

Love Doan and his style but I doubt he will be leaving the Coyotes.

If Doan leaves PHX, I'll be shocked if it's not for retirement.

If Parise comes here, I'll be shocked.

If Ryan comes here, see ya Schenn+ or Couts+ aka no thanks.

I'd like Semin, but who knows if he is even staying in the NHL. And if he wasn't too expensive either.

I feel we need a top line player on the wing with Giroux. At this stage, I don't think Jagr is a top line player right now.

Schenn - Briere - Simmonds
Read - Coots - Voracek
Sestito - Talbot - Prust

Mez - Kimo
Grossman - Coburn
Carle - Schenn

Bryz
Leighton/Hedberg

I still think they can get C. Stewart from STL for 1st Rd pick +.

Hartnell - Giroux - Voracek
Stewart - Briere - Schenn

Ummm no. I'd have both, but not on the same line please. I'd say put Mez with Schenn and Timonen with Carle.

Food for thought, should the Flyers gun hard for Parise just so the Pens don't get him? I'm not jumping the gun here, but it seems that many fans here feel like the moves this off season have left the Flyers playing catch-up, IMO I would welcome Parise and Ryan with open arms, they do nothing but make the Flyers a better team but they're both going to cost a lot, but it's only June so we all have a long time before the season starts

1 - Doubt Whitney is leaving Phoenix as well.

2 - Can't be dealt.

3 - I think Hedberg is retiring.

I doubt he comes here & I doubt he lasts a long time in FA.

I doubt we get Ryan without B. Schenn + or Couts +, which in that case... no thanks.

That may be enough IMO to get Ryan, especially seeing as he wants out of Anaheim evidently. However, would that be the best move to make from our perspective? A big problem we had this season, which was amplified in the playoffs was the unwillingness of our forwards to provide back checking to support the style of Play lavi wants them to play. Backchecking and keeping your man as a forward is an INTEGRAL part of lavis system working. Trading voracek for Ryan makes that worse. Voracek is more valuable as a 2 way player. Ryan is average at best in that area.

I want bobby Ryan as much as anyone. But sadly I feel likeI its not going to happen.

What about Ballard? He could use a change of scenery and could be had for cheap.. Would be a reclamation project

Not saying it's likely, but it may be possible to get Parise and Suter. If these contract totals aren't high enough, I think we could move Meszaros to open up another $3m while hoping Gustafsson or Bourdon can play #6/7 for $1m

FORWARDS
Scott Hartnell ($4.200m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Zach Parise ($7.500m)
Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Danny Briere ($6.500m) / Jakub Voracek ($3.250m)
Matt Read ($0.900m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Wayne Simmonds ($1.750m)
Eric Wellwood ($0.580m) / Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.544m)
Tom Sestito ($0.605m) / Ben Holmstrom ($0.825m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Ryan Suter ($7.000m) / Braydon Coburn ($4.500m)
Luke Schenn ($3.600m) / Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m)
Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m) / Nicklas Grossmann ($3.500m)
Andreas Lilja ($0.738m) /
GOALTENDERS
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.667m)
Niko Hovinen ($0.950m)
------
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $70,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $72,926,944; BONUSES: $2,805,000

It seems to me that there has to be another deal brewing where we bring in another forward. Because right now there are some huge question marks with the offense, not that JVR would not have been a question mark. We really better hope that Hartnell and Simmonds can repeat last season and hope that briere can be effective offensively and not be so terribly inadequate defensively like he has been

This.

I feel like they have to believe that they can a, get Parise to sign here or b, still make a reasonable trade for Ryan. Our centers can't to everything. We're now pretty weak on the wing IMO. Not that Jvr would have made that into a strong point, but now our top winger is clearly hartnell. With the season he had last year that's reasonable, but it may also be unreasonable to expect him to repeat that when last year was a career season for him.

My plan for free agency, would be first to gauge any interest that both suter and parise would have in coming to philly. We could make it happen cap wise this year, and next year Timonen and Hartnell coming of the books opens up 10 mil. If those were not possible i would think about matching the offers that jagr and carle recieve unless they are outrageous (over 4.5 or 5 mil for carl and over 4 for jagr)

That's 14 forwards, and 7 Dmen, and a ton of money to spend. I'd take a run at Suter's rights, or see what Semin is asking for. Could probably do Semin and Carle, or just Suter. Unless Semin thinks he's coming of of his 40 goal year, and not 2 consecutive 50 point seasons.

I'd rather have parise over semin by so much my mind cannot fathom the analogy.

So would anyone in the NHL, but putting all our eggs in the Parise/Suter baskets is going to leave us with lots of money to spend and no via free agents to target with it.

I hate Semin, but given the moves we've made and where we sit, he's an option.... a bad, fall backplan, but still have to consider it.

I would not anticipate the Flyers spending close to $70.3 M this year. It's likely the cap is going to come down considerably from the temporary number.
