I have to say, with the platitudes Hakan is placing on Bodin, I'm surprised this guy didn't get a sniff today. Larsson was on my list of potential later-round steals and did enough to impress his parent Allsvenskan club into giving him a game this season. That's an incredible jump for someone who played glorified Midget AAA/Junior B all year.

However, I can't question Andersson- even when he didn't like a (different) player I recommended he go and see. That he actually took time out of his schedule to get in three viewings of said skater gave me even greater respect for the man.

I'm not raining on your fun, I'm saying it's tough, personally, to get excited about a draft when they are all 5 years away.

I can see the fun in following a young career, but without watching these kids play it's about as entertaining as reading stat sheets from a video game simulation. It's not like Edmonton who gets instant gratification with each draft pick.

I'm generally not big on getting into the scouting/research of draft prospects, but 2007/08 was the height of my draft nerdom. I went full-tilt and researched some of these guys to the full extent of hockey mags, video, my own knowledge of hockey based on 20 years of playing the game at the time, and google in general. I was very impressed by Smith (and Nyquist) and, at the time was only really posting at RWC. There was a generally intelligent guy there who despised the Smith pick and thought it was a waste, and based his opinion mostly on Smith's weight (lol). So I was one of Smith's (and Nyquist's) biggest champions at the time, and now I can't help but favor them. Exciting for me to see them as the two biggest up-and-comers currently. But these days it takes me longer to get on board with our picks. I'm a huge Jarnkrok supporter though. Seems like Jurco is someone to be excited about. Is Frk next on that list? I think I'll have to wait for next season

I really like that we have guys like Chad and Filppula who watch prospect games and tournaments and post in the prospect section so we can follow their development. I absolutely love the fact we get a guy who has a Lincoln Stars blog who comes to us on draft day and tell us about McKee. It's awesome that we get Swedish and Finnish posters who can tell us about a guy no "hockey scribe" in the world knows much about. Unfortunately this board is getting a bit too close the RWC forum where there's a heck of a lot of noise that signifies nothing and adds little to the debate.

So yeah, to each his own.

Yeah we get the best of both worlds. Matt is the best in the business by a large margin and we get some fantastic info on prospects here in the prospect section. It's a hell of a lot of fun if you're into that sort of thing.
