So many teams out there with tons of cap space I can't believe the Flyers get Parise. It would be to good to be true.

Semin would be ridiculous with Giroux if he could just be trusted to play hard every night.

I have a feeling Homer will look to unload draft picks in a trade to acquire a scorer if Parise is gone but there doesn't even seem to be any teams in a rebuild that would off load someone for picks.

Jollie Jokinen and his 60 pts can probably be had for $3-$4M.

July 1 can't get here soon enough.

I think what needs to be done is to make a HUGE push for suter. If he wants to play out west ok, we'll figure that out eventually. But make a HUGE offer for him. Blow him out of the water. If he takes it, great, if not, THEN you look for a stopgap vet on D through free agency, and THEN you turn your attention trying to trade for a guy like bobby ryan, or maybe even Rick Nash if Howson over exploits his unrealistic expectations for his return; you may be able to get him at a discount.

I just think Parise is gonna get something ridiculous. 10 years $70 million isn't out of the realm of possibility since it's pretty much what Richards got last year. That's just too big of a contract to give someone.

Am the only one who doesn't really want Parise? I just think if we're going to spend that much money on a winger it should be a winger who's style of play is going to (theoretically) click well with Giroux's. I just do not see G and Parise clicking well together. They both play a puck possession oriented style. I'd rather have a guy who is a bigger body, has a very good shot, and can set up in the slot, draw attention from giroux, and take one timers from G from the half boards. I would much rather spend 7.5mil on suter than 7 on Parise.

I would love to bring in Ott and put on the third line. Have Hartnell, Simmonds, Ott and Sestito or Rinaldo all on separate lines. That would be some Flyer hockey.

Hartnell - Giroux - Voracek
Schenn - Briere - Simmonds
Read - Coots - Ponikarowski
Sestito - Talbot - Prust

Schenn - Kimo
Grossman - Coburn
Carle - Mez

Bryz
Leighton

1st Line - Voracek would finally have to step up and show he can finish.

2nd Line - Schenn & Simmonds create space for Briere and hopefully score more then they give up.

3rd Line - Nice shut down line. Coots and Poni have size to keep teams pinned in their zone and they can all finish enough to play in all situations.

4th Line - A real pain in the arse line to play against that can wear teams down.

I would like Gaustad to center the 4th line but I doubt he will sign for 4th line duties or money.

Yea I'd rather spend the money on Suter. I don't think he'd command a 10 year deal like Parise theoretically could. If he got a 7 year deal it would take him to around 34 so you'd get good years out of him for most of the contract. Offensive skills tend to drop off earlier, so you may not get as many good years out of Parise. That's not concrete by any means, but it's usually how things seem to play out.

Dito.
Ott's also pretty good at face-offs and defensively.
He'll give you 35 points also.
Great fit right there.

Which is something I don't want to do.
Give G some lesser minutes on 5on5 and distribute those among Schenn and Couturier. Win Win.

Is there any reason why Wideman hasn't really been mentioned, he's big, hits, blocks shots, moves the puck, scores and is a right handed shooter?

From the posts above you can see our forwards have lots of different options / combination potentials. For that reason I'd try and go for a top mins D either in trade or UFA. Make a run at Weber (RFA), Yandle (trade), Suter (UFA) and Wideman (UFA)... Maybe even Mike Green (RFA)? Put Mesz as part of a trade package if it's not a UFA guy, if it is try and get Nash / Ryan with him and some of the forwards + propects + picks.

For that reason if there is anything else to be done I'd kinda expect it to not happen until July 1st.

Or with Suter and Parise and not re-signing Carle, but going with a 22-man roster.

I think we have three spots in roster open right now, maybe four. First line winger, bottom six PK who is physical, defender and second goalie. It debend our plan, do we want to get Couts or Schen second line place or do we give them time to develop in third line to their own role with chance to play both, offensive and defensive game and PK PP time.

First line winger:
-UFA:
I think the best is Parise, but i have strong feeling that he is going to Minnesota or stays NJ.
Second is Doan, love him style , like a flyer. I doubt this but i would go for him.
Semin no ****ing way, never never and never.
Jagr, not anymore, maybe second line if we needed.

-Trade option:
Nash, very expensive(value and caphit)
Ryan, want to play here but value is too much maybe, but if we can get him trade like this im in:

Evander Kane, maybe my favorite to bring here, every tool to be powerforward star. I like. But his value is big..

Unrelistic fantasy to bring here: Brown , Lucic...

To bottom six:

-UFA
Paul Gaustad, good role player to bottonsix, PK player with very good defensive instics, like 3milj cap hit.

Konopka, only fourt line grinder with fighting attitude, somekind of defensive player with PK kills?

Michael Healy, enforcer like Rinaldo to bottom line.

Few interesting physical bottom six players:

Glass
Tootoo
Prust

Trade options:

Steve Ott, i think best guy to bring play third line, or what you think Ott-Couts-Simmonds line? Can score sometime , is physical and can defense.

Defender

Ufa market:
There is many expensive guys who fit here very well, Suter Wideman Garrison first options.. And my though just like Parise, Suter is going to Minnesota. So depend there coming trade but if Mezza is going i will try to bring Garrison and Wideman.
I think there is no other defender who will upgrade our defense in this time on Ufa market.

Trade:
We bring all ready Schenn here, so i think we need puck skills ja all-rounding. Weber is one who will upgrade defense but he is so so expensive. Maybe Yandle and others are good players but if we bring here somebody, is it really worth it if we lose players like Voracek Schenn or Couts??

example: not resign Carle ( 4+34 +4 55hits ~4.5m caphit) and trade Mezza (7+18 +6 144hits 4m caphit) part of trading first line wing to here, sign like Garrison (16+17 +6 127hits ~?? caphit) and Wideman (11+33 -8 113hits ~5m? caphit), i think in here we dont lose so much but we get upgrade to our defense and offense.

First here i have frame to our roster where Couts nad Schenn is in third line.

My Custom Lineup
FORWARDS
Scott Hartnell ($4.200m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx / Danny Briere ($6.500m) / Jakub Voracek ($3.250m)
Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Wayne Simmonds ($1.750m)
Tom Sestito ($0.605m) /Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.544m)

DEFENSEMEN
Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m) / xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Luke Schenn ($3.600m) / xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Braydon Coburn ($4.500m) / Nicklas Grossmann ($3.500m)

GOALTENDERS
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.667m)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $70,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $50,434,444; BONUSES: $2,705,000
CAP SPACE (15-man roster): $19,865,556

So 19.000m free cap space to bring two defenders and two forwards and second goalie.

I like Doan so i would like to see him or look a like player in first line. Yeah i know unrealistic, but possible IF want to bring Ryan or Kane we have to move a lot of players, i really dont know what ...

To bring my favorite, Steve Ott here, i raise Schenn to play second line center, for that i move Briere to winger. So i maybe need to move Read/Talbot/Mezza and picks for that to Dallas.

Upgrade the defense, when Suter is Wilder i go after Wideman,i think sign him with 5.000m is good deal.

After Mezza going away in trade, bringing first line winger with ~5.000m and Ott 3.000m and Wideman 5.000m we have still 10.000m cap space.Signing Jason Garrison like 2.500m is good to 3-pair?

After that, 7.500m free for scond goalie and "others", in this time with this roster only what im worried is our second scoring line: Briere-Schenn-Voracek, is that enough? Maybe bringin Jagr back like 3.000m or something will help that... OR if that is enough and we like to do better our PK and bottom six, there is still room for Gaustad/Prust/Tootoo. And we need that at least if we have traded Talbot away for Ott or somebody else.

So here it is, my way to play Philly hockey in upcoming season:

My Custom Lineup
FORWARDS
Scott Hartnell ($4.200m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Shane Doan ($4.000m)
Danny Briere ($6.500m) / Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Jakub Voracek ($3.500m)
Steve Ott ($2.950m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Wayne Simmonds ($1.750m)
Tom Sestito ($0.605m) / Paul Gaustad ($3.000m) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.544m)

DEFENSEMEN

Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m) / Dennis Wideman ($5.000m)
Luke Schenn ($3.600m) / Jason Garrison ($2.500m)
Braydon Coburn ($4.500m) / Nicklas Grossmann ($3.500m)

GOALTENDERS

Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.667m)
Chris Mason ($1.500m)

------

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $70,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $67,884,444; BONUSES: $2,705,000
CAP SPACE (20-man roster): $2,415,556

2.400m to upgrade 20-men roster to 22-24 men roster.

In this plan there is very unrealistic targets ( Doan ) and maybe others but that is my idea of plan to this summer, if you have some better players to my spots ( first wing , leading physical bottom six and defenders) i really want to hear.

I don't think he's become a terrible player and I think he fits what we need. Obviously I'd rather get other guys first (I think you break the bank to get Weber). I don't actually think Suter is that much better, just been playing in a system that has been working with effective guys around him. Had Washinton clicked as a team and challenged for the cup Wideman would be probably the hottest Dman on July 1st. Widemans and Suters career stats are pretty close bar +/-.

What's the concensus on the contract values for Parise or Suter?

I've seen Parise come out to about 7.5m and I feel that's realistic.

Suter, people have going from 6.0 to 7.0. Based on Karlsson and Doughty's contracts I think 6.5 is the minimum and more likely 7.0 because he'll be a UFA vs. the other guys signing RFA.

The Mez, Read, and 1st / 2nd or Voracek, Mez, 3rd suggestions were for Ryan, not Kane.

I'm not even sure about Voracek + Read, to be honest. It would create a hole in our top-9 that wouldn't be that easy to fill--based on production v. cap hit.

My guess? Nothing happens from now until about July 5--by which point I expect Parise will have signed somewhere and Nash possibly deal to one of the unsatisfied suitors. I don't expect we'll be a serious contender for Parise's services, and, with JVR gone, I can't see a deal for Nash.

At that point, if the Rangers end up with Nash, and / or the Penguins end up with Parise, I'd expect Holmgren takes another look at Ryan.
