Hornqvist to Washington

With the acquisition of Ribeiro, Caps now could use a pure scorer on the RW. To me, Patrik Hornqvist looks like a guy who can be a very valuable contributor with the good center. And the line of Johansson - Backstrom - Hornqvist would be absolutely crazy.
Untouchables: Alzner, Carlson, Ovechkin, Backstrom, Ribeiro, Holtby likely Johansson now and maybe Chimera, Kuznetsov, Forsberg as well. Everyone else could be in play, including Brouwer, Laich, Green (though I don't see us trading him without getting a D back, unless GMGM is sure he can land big FA blueliner), our 1st next year.

Nashville has trouble scoring, why would thye give up Hornqvist?

Brouwer and Laich for Hornqvist?

Only way it makes sense for the Preds to do this deal is to get an overpayment of sorts.

Nashville was 9th in goals during the regular season (Caps were 14th), and 7th in goals per game in the playoffs (Caps were 12th). I wouldn't say they really have problems scoring goals nor would I'd send both Brouwer and Laich for Hornqvist, who, despite having flashes of brilliancy, looks very inconsistent.

I thought of Green for Hornqvist+. Green seems to have fixed his health issues and if Suter leaves NSH they could use some O from the D. If by July 31st Preds don't sign Suter, what about Green conditional 1st on Suter signing in DC for Hornqvist, Suter rights, conditional 3rd if Suter doesn't sign in DC?

To break it down:
IF Suter doesn't stay in Preds they basically trade Hornqvist for Green and a first straight up or, if he doesn't sign here as well, Hornqvist and 3rd for Green.

I think the Caps want a goal scorer on the RW and Johansson isn't it. I see him as the most likely moved to acquire a finisher for the top line.

I see Ribeiro being acquired to teach MJ a bit, lead by example so MJ can take over 2C once Ribeiro's gone.

Not sure Ribeiro is someone you acquire to lead by example

Well, Ribeiro can show MJ how an undersized centerman with subpar FO abilities can be successful in the NHL.

Untouchables: entire team.

I see it as them recognizing that MJ90 isn't a Center and plays better on the wing. That said he still isn't a goal scorer on the wing, so the Caps could benefit by moving him if it lead to a significant upgrade.

It would be way easier to sign an UFA winger imho. And I think that's what caps will attempt to do trying to land AK-46

Hornqvist would cost the Caps way too much to acquire.

They'd be better off just signing a UFA winger like Hudler or Samuelsson.

Hudler/Samuelsson + the assets the Caps would have to give up for Hornqvist > Hornqvist.

Samuelsson is interesting, but I think we need a long-term solution at 2RW and I don't think he's top-6 player right now.

Hudler... I don't like him, he'll be Semin v 2.0.

I hope the Caps throw some money at Doan if he remains unsigned.

Um, how about Filip Forsberg and Evgeny Kuznetsov? For now, all we need is a stopgap until one of those guys matures. Signing a guy like Kostitsyn for 2-3 years would be fine. Or we could just resign Semin.

That's sad, but of all options "re-sign Semin" seems to be the best one.
