Tough to gauge because you could see some teams try to stretch the cap hits out 10 years on both players to reduce the cap hit up front.

Parise probably sits between 7-7.5M. Suter between 6.5 and 7.2 or so.

If I had to guess, Parise. That said, neither exceed a 10% likelihood of signing here.

Only reason Parise is slightly more likely is that the size of the contract prices about half the teams in the league out, whereas Schultz is going to be cheap enough for 25+ teams to be interested.

If we have to trade Mezza or we cant get what we want from UFA, what you think about giving Kubina cheap contract?

Well, if by "cheap" you mean Lilja cheap, fine... but he'll get a substantial offer from someone, and I don't see him as a very useful piece going forward.

If Mezsaros is dealt, I assume Carle is resigned. In that case, I'm still fine with using a combination of MAB, Gus, and Lilja as the 6/7 defenseman.

If Mezsaros goes and Carle does not resign, then I think they would target one of the other second-tier UFAs...the ones who weren't absolutely awful in their brief stint here.

What? Kostitsyn is bad defensively, and very rarely uses his size, and when he does, it's not in a physical way. He'll use his size to protect the puck, but forechecking and punishing guys is something he doesn't do.

Kubina did not look good when he was here. He could be the 7th d-man on this team but we already have Lilja which is better then Kubina so I would pass on that one.

Who is available in the KHL?

Does Homer have another ace up his sleeve from the KHL?

Two years ago he signed Zherdev and last year Jagr.

What's Max Afinogonov doing these days? Probably about 32 y/o?

Can they take a shot and trade for Radulov's rights?

If we re-sign Carle, a back-up and 1 or 2 forward (4th liner maybe), we'll have a pretty solid line-up

Hartnell - Giroux - (Jagr/Voracek)
Schenn - Briere - (Voracek/Simmonds)
Read - Couturier - (Simmonds/Talbot)
Wellwood - (Talbot/FA) - Rinaldo/FA
Shelley (of course), maybe Harry Z, Sestito...

That's a solid forward core.

On defense :

Coburn - Carle
Timonen - Schenn
Grossmann - Meszaros
Bourdon (if Coburn, Mez, Schenn or Grossmann get injured), Gustaffsson (if Timonen or Carle gets injured) and Lilja
(just because)

That's pretty solid too, even if we don't have a star player (except Timonen, but he's getting old), I'd take it.

Bryz
FA

(We'll se for the goaltenders, but I feel Bryz will be better this year)

They can take a shot at Radulov but I would imagine there is no chance they would. Radulov is Zherdev. Very good but flaky. He bolted on his first contract then came back and proceeded to be suspended by his team in the playoffs (WCF IIRC too). I would be SHOCKED if the Flyers even considered thinking about thinking about Radulov.

Dominick Hasek... yes, he's still playing and he talked earlier this year about possibly coming to the NHL for this season.

that is a pretty sexy line up. bobby ryan would be a nice guy to get. but i am gonna say no to ott. would rather keep read, just for a quicker line up, and save the cash for weber next offseason. my surprise to make the team is scott laughton.

Yea I mean carle could be a bottom pair guy and come in on the pp. that's pretty solid. Not sure you need a star dman when you got a comity like that.

Hoping that bryz plays well that team could go to the finals.

Hasn't he already re-signed in the KHL (and now the best played player in the world)? I would have absoutely traded for his rights, Zherdev was an inconsistant player on the ice, Rad was always pretty consistant, he just doesn't care too much about where he plays. He would be a great NHL player but he's just more interested in making more money elsewhere. I'd be happy to have him on the team at the right price because he's a great hockey player but apparently he's on $12m a year now...

There will be free cap space for Weber after Timonen(~6.500m.) retires. And Shelley and Lilja move on (~2.000m.)

Trade Meszaros, Read, Cousins, 2013 1st and 2013 2nd for Ryan (ducks probably won't take it unless voracek is involved though, but worth a shot)

Give suter 7 years, 52 million.

Ryan-Giroux-Schenn
Hartnell-Briere-Voracek
Simmonds-Couturier-???
Rinaldo/Sestito-Gaustad?-Talbot

Coburn-Suter
Schenn-Timonen
Grossmann-Gustafason/Bourdon/Lilja

Bryz
Biron/Leighton/Clemmenson/Hedberg

Some of these scenarios seem a bit farfetched to me.

Let's take a step back and look at where we are right now--assuming Voracek gets resigned rather than traded.

Quote:
FORWARDS
Scott Hartnell ($4.200m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jakub Voracek ($3.250m)
Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Danny Briere ($6.500m) / Wayne Simmonds ($1.750m)
Eric Wellwood ($0.580m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Matt Read ($0.900m)
Zac Rinaldo ($0.544m) / Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Harry Zolnierczyk ($0.925m)
Jody Shelley ($1.100m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m) / Braydon Coburn ($4.500m)
Nicklas Grossmann ($3.500m) / Luke Schenn ($3.600m)
Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m) / Marc-Andre Bourdon ($0.925m)
Andreas Lilja ($0.738m) /
GOALTENDERS
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.667m)
UFA Goalie ($1.000m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $70,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $60,921,944; BONUSES: $2,705,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $9,378,056
Even if we resign Carle and keep Mezsaros--an unlikely prospect, I think, we'd still have something like 6 million in cap space. When you consider that a forward would be bumped for Parise, there's ample room for a $7 million offer.
