Rangers could have as many as four prospects playing for team USA at the U-20 WJC.

Miller (lock)
Skjei (likely)
Fogarty (possible)
Nieves (could get a late invite if he has a big first half)

I think maybe Fogarty and Nieves are long shots.

Still, I do like being able to see the kids play, really for any team. Fasth made a good impression, Kreider obviously at all levels of country competition, his involvement in the World Championships side two years in a row was a first good indication of how strong a player he might be, and Stepan obviously blew the WJC out of the water.

2-way defender that was projected to go in the first round in 2011 draft. He happened to kill someone in a car accident I believe and went undrafted for 2 straight years.

Did he play in the CHL? Was there anything he did to cause the accident? Drunk?

Personally I'll stay far away from the kid. I just wouldn't like his presence on the team. But MacTavish did end up having a great career after his car accident as well.

Fogarty will be in camp. So he is a possibility.

But Nieves would need to open eyes the first half of the season to get an invite later. So he is a long shot for this year.

If i had to guess, Miller and Skjei are the two that will definitely be on the roster.

Yes, he played for the Regina Pats before the accident. The past year, he was traded to Kelowna.

I believe the police did say there was drinking involved.

Danny Heatley comes to mind, as well.

I do believe in second chances. He could be a good kid that just made a stupid mistake. It happens unfortunately.

His stats looked pretty good, 15 goals and something like 46pts in 54 games. I'd give him a shot.

At least MacT spent time in jail.

Heatley pouted like a baby and demanded a trade out of Atlanta to avoid his community service hours.

I understand that he has skill. But character guys are valued too. As an individual who lost a friend due to drunk driving, I'd have a tough time stomaching Bell on the roster. Perhaps if he has truly changed, I will regret doubting him.

I can understand why you feel that way, but I think it would be a mistake to judge a teenager's character based on one (albeit major) incident.

Sorry for your loss of your friend.

There are just so many teens that drink and drive, some a lot more drunk then this kid was, that never git caught or caused an accident.

I see it every weekend and holiday as a local firefighter. That and kids texting and driving (believe it or not that is becoming the mist frequent cause of car accidents now).

The point is the kid could have good character. I'm sure the Rangers staff will have several interviews w him over the coarse of the week to determine that.

Character is the Rangers M.O. so there has to be something there for them to even invite him.

This is a touchy subject so I'm going to try to stay out of it.

I will say, however, that i just hope the Rangers do their homework and make only good decisions.

he was on the same team as mccolgan this year so hopefully that means the rangers saw alot of him and did their homework on the whole situation before extending an invite

I was a big Myles Bell fan in his draft year up until the incident. He's definitely worth a look.

Some mocks had him late first, most predicted him as a mid-2nd round pick.

Pretty good skater, great offensive instincts, likes to hit too.

While I was reading some of the news articles on him and the accident, I think one stated he was suppose to go in the late first round.

Looking at the ISS midterm rankings for 2011, he was ranked 17th. Final rankings (after the accident) he wasn't in the top 30 ranking.

Myles Bell was a late 1st early 2nd round prospect for the 2011 draft before his accident. I think it's a great idea to give the kid a second chance. Everyone makes mistakes, even though this one was a serious one. It's a win - win situation for everybody involved. He was a very good offensive defenseman prospect before the accident and obviously the Rangers are looking for more offense from the back end. Can't hurt.

Here is a write up from The Scouting report in 2011.

31. RD Myles Bell – Regina (WHL)
DOB: Aug. 19/93 | Shoots: R | Height: 6.00 | Weight: 202lbs
Season Statistics (Jan 28th): 48GP 11G 21A 31P -6 60PIM
---
Bell is a high-risk, high-reward defenseman that is capable of making momentum-changing plays. Although listed as a defenseman, Bell could almost be listed as a fourth forward as he seems to spend as much time joining the rush and the play up ice as he does in his own end. He loves to carry the puck up the ice and will attempt to stickhandle through traffic. He makes a strong first pass out of his end and has a very heavy shot from the point. Bell also loves delivering big hits. He can run around out of position when he locks on to a target. While he loves to rush the puck, his puck handling skills are good, but not elite in the way some other draft-eligible players’ are. His risky tendencies have often led to troubles in his own end and it must be determined whether his abilities are good enough for him to play the same way in the pros or whether he will just become a defensive liability.

He's a righty, too. Something this organization needs desperately.

If he can learn from his mistakes, he's definitely worth taking a risk on. If the Rangers are inviting him to camp, I have to think they feel like he will mature as a person if he hasn't already. It was an unfortunate accident for a young kid. Not like he has a rap sheet that's a mile long.

I don't think his statline is that impressive for an overager looking to be drafted.

Considering all of the turmoil he went through, and the fact that Kelowna was pretty mediocre team, it's to be expected.

Perhaps, but why not give a shot to another overage kid? Similar to JAM.
