Well, here's the thing. He compliments good players really well, especially with the tweaks to his game now that he's pretty much man-sized. He does play on a really talented line though, so you have to have to separate the fact that his production tempts you to compare him to other OHL draftees with "similar" production/styles but different levels of skill/potential, such as Scott Laughton (who went a bit high, imo, but whatever).

So that's the problem. "In a vacuum", he's not far from a ~90th pick, imo. When you consider what he might be able to contribute as part of a talented NHL line, though, hindsight and a long career might suggest that he was well worth at least a ~60th pick. We'll see. Interesting pick for sure.

So I guess this draft turned out to be, "Fail for Vail"?

Any chance he plays for team USA at the U-20?

After the big steps he took this year, I expect he's fully on the Team USA radar now.

yes, he wasn't invited to the summer camp, so he'll need some kind of season to get an invite to the winter camp. I know he's on their radar from talking with someone I know that knows his stuff when it comes to Team USA. Assuming he doesn't make it this year, he should make it next year from the sounds of it.

Sarnia and Windsor play in the same division and it seems like they play each other 6 times a year...McKeen's makes it very clear Vail played against the other team's best players every night this past year, so that will continue this year one would think.

Get the feeling Gally and Brady are about to become fierce rivals.

From that interview, he seems to have a really good head on his shoulders.

Let's just say that both teams hate each other. On the ice.

Windsor selects Vladimir Ionin in the Import Draft. 6'2 forward. Might play with Vail if he comes over.

The NHL should consider doing the same and this could be an entire new thread.
Let's now focus on Brady Vail. A young player who has a nice future in front of him.

I concur. The NHL should really look into adopting this practice for the draft. It may even be improved

Just scrimmage stuff so nothing to get too excited about but it's nice to hear he's been working hard throughout the summer to improve.

Rick is a cool guy though. You never know. Many times you look at drafts from years ago and you re-order it and you see 7th rounders become 'top 10' from that draft.

THW makes a list of OHL breakout candidates, and Vail gets an honorable mention.

the thing I like the most from this guy is that he started to play hockey way late. Sure he is a long shot at 94th overall but he was way higher on some lists and his next year will really see if he a gem.
