True to both parts. Sutter's always played Selke-caliber defense, just never had the spotlight to show it. He'll get that in Pittsburgh.

You still want to snark about Jordan Staal trade proposals after yesterday's return validated them?

Playoffs are more important than playing in Pittsburgh, who was the last guy to get Selke recognition with no NHL playoff experience?

Well David Backes was a finalist with basically no playoff experience

The Selke is voted for before the playoffs. And there's no doubt the Penguins will get on Versus/NBC more time than the Hurricanes, thus, more of a spotlight for Brandon.

This whole thread his hilarious. You should've known it was coming.

So Sutter eh?

How about this deal from the Pens:

Sutter + Pouliot + Dumoulin for Staal?

Actually NVR, I wouldnt pay that much to get a 1 year rental of Staal.

For a third line center!?! Jordin Stall has to be the most overrated player in NHL history!

Feels weird being on the other side of it. Now how are the Pens going to get Carl Gunnarsson?

It is Jordon, with an o. He has never scored more than 50 points and is injury prone too.

If Phoenix got Z for Cheverie, #81, and Ruopp maybe the Pens will take Eberle, next year's 2nd, and Schemko
for Brandon
it will help the Coyotes chances getting into the 2013 playoffs, ok I'm kidding, but it would be nice if Sutter did find a way onto the Coyote's roster without giving up anything on the current roster of value.
also maybe the Pens would have interest in Bissonette (nothing to do with the above mention rant)

I know that, the spotlight of the playoffs though builds up a reputation fast.

I love all these "I'm not going to waste your time, but I am going to waste your time" value threads on HF

There's this awesome site called Google and if you type in "Brandon Sutter scouting report" and hit enter it will do all the work for you!

SSETS: Plays a mature game with two-way tendencies. Is a natural leader with a great frame to grow into for the National Hockey League. Plays with more grit and confidence with each coming season. Can shut down opposing centers. Will become more effective offensively as he gains further experience.

FLAWS: Needs to become a little more confident in the offensive zone, and differ less to his linemates when on the attack. Must also continue filling out his lanky 6-3 frame.

CAREER POTENTIAL: Quality two-way center.

He ain't bad. Scouting report is a little out of date, but it's been a good resource so far.

Pointless thing to ponder, but if we're just trying to figure out his value for the hell of it I'd say it would be a pick in that 8-12 range of the first round.
As a Sabres fan, had you offered me 12th for Sutter before the run on defenseman that let us get Grigorenko happened, I would've done it immediately. Now, it's closer, but I think I'd agree to it.
