It depends on your perception. JvR is around the timeline as Nash aside from injuries and front line minutes, and he's five years younger.
So I think we got a younger model that didn't cost as much, but that's my opinion.

I don't know about poor man's Rick Nash but I am so glad with JVR and had rather have him over Nash considering all the factors(age, contract, cap-hit).

Im less disapointed with this trade then I would have been with a trade for Nash.

Take that as you will.

JVR is a tall man's MacArthur at this point. Not even close to Nash in any way at all.

I think JVR is more skilled and more of a pass first, perimeter player. Nash is more of a forceful goal scorer and more willing to use his size.

I think Nash is the better player at this point and will cost more in trade deservedly so.

JVR fits in to the age bracket of this team way better than Rick Nash, and hopefully he's ready to take off soon having endured his growing pains in Philadelphia.

I'll say this though, I'm very much hoping Burke is still in on Nash. I know the price is high but he would make a real impact on the blue and white. Why wouldn't we want this guy. Size, speed, plays with passion and is a legit goalscorer. I know we need a centre but we definitely need another player like this in our top 6 as well. Ontario boy to boot he would be such a great fit here.

If the price were fair I would hope Burke pulls the trigger.

JVR averages 41 points per 82 games at the NHL level, with a $4.25M cap hit.

Nash averages 66 points per 82 games at the NHL level, with a $7.8M cap hit.

JVR is 5 years younger than Nash, and definitely has a lot more room to grow as an NHL player. He's significantly cheaper on the cap, and under that price tag for a while.

Poor man's Nash? I think it's hard to say that, but I think he could end up being a much better acquisition when all things are considered.

Yep.

Is this where we jump on the current players bandwagon and say how much better he is than the guy we didn't get? I haven't played this game yet. Sounds fun though

Have no interest in Nash. We already have one in Phil Kessel.

What Kessel lacks of size/power, he makes up for in playmaking.

JvR is a really poor man's Rick Nash... but they do have similar strengths to their respective games (Nash on a completely different level, of course).

That being said, when you consider the asking price for Nash, I think Burke did really well on JvR. He's a lot younger, costs 1/2 as much on the cap, and Toronto only had to give up 1 piece, who they probably won't miss too much considering that they've got Komisarek.

Nash is the most overrated player in the NHL. I hope we have completely backed away from him.

No. Nash is a better player and more a PF than JvR but I am more excited to get JvR by only giving up one piece within that age bracket than give 3-4 good pieces for a 28 year old Nash with a cap hit of nearly 8M.

JvR is more of a player that boxes out the front of the net rather than crash into it. He's very hard to knock off the puck.

JvR was to be a key piece going to Columbus in a Nash trade. This may be the start of something bigger.

I'd take the JVR deal over a Nash deal anyday.

We would have had to sell the farm to get Nash. Not to mention JVR is younger.

Nash and JvR both play a perimeter game that drive their coaches crazy. Everyone referring to Nash as a true power forward is almost as annoying as Derek jeter winning a Gold Glove.

Nash does use his size more than JvR but he still plays a soft game for a man of his size and strength. There are some obvious similarities between the two players and I think that referring to JvR as a poor man's Nash is very accurate.

I think Nash is a lot more physical than you give him credit for. He doesn't fight or look for hits like Dustin Brown but he finishes checks with authority and uses his frame very well on the boards and to shield the puck.

He is a poor man's Nash. Caphit is 3 mill less and scores 20ish less points than Rick.

We might be looking at a Rich Man's Nash in a few years however. At this point I will call him Rich Nash.

Nope, that's definitely Nash.
