But ya, I'm guessing he can play both roles. I dunno, hes unproven and most posters suggest we either give up kadri or gunnar (or both) for him, which I think is a joke.
Stasny would be good. Colorado wants us to overpay though.
I dunno, Bozak has the defensive game to play a nice 3rd line center role. Ya, I think everyone would agree that connolly and lombardi need to go though lol.

Not at the price of Kadri thanks. For stastny I'd be a bit more thinking because he's an extremely valuable player for the avs, it might entice sherman.
Reason I want to go after wilson is due to his potential.
no. Gunnarson is one of our last defensively oriented dmen. Trade him for a 5'8, 35 year old winger? After Phaneuf, Gunnarson is without a doubt our most important dman in the coming season.
After Phaneuf the most important D men is Gardiner's progression in his 2nd year but I agree I wouldn't trade him for McDonald
I'd like to think Burke is trying to move a defender (Liles, Franson, Gunnarsson) in a deal for one of their centres (Berglund, Oshie, Backes). Obviously other pieces would be involved, but it could be a base for something.
Backes would single-handedly change the composition of our top six. Forgetting the price for a second, I don't think he'd even be available. Offensively, not a #1 center, but gritty and huge. Imagine the room he would clear for Kessel and Lupul?
I'm happy with the JVR trade, but if we trade Gunnar we are supremely screwed. A #1C is important but defence was our problem last year, not goal scoring. Giving up our steadiest defenceman in Gunnar as well as Schenn just leaves a humungous hole. I don't want 38-point Berglund under those conditions. And Bozak+Liles+Mac is a pretty laughable overpayment. People seriously undervalue those players around here.
the reason i didn't add a big upgrade at center is that i don't see burke trading for a center and hopefully wanting to go after Getzlaf next season when lombardi and armstrong become free agents
Who has more upside- Patrick Berglund or Colin Wilson?
Berglund IMO Colin Wilson IMO is no different to what we have in D'Amigo. I have zero interest in him but that's just me others may disagree which is fine.
Stewart? just resigned, but expendable to the Blues?
Stewart would be sweet, but I don't know if we have anything they'd want. Lupul? Mac + Franson? Imagine Stewart and JVR left/right? (I know, I know, still need a center...Wilson?)

Thoughts?
Marc Bergevin said he's pretty confident they will get Moen re-signed so there's a pretty good chance we won't have an opportunity to sign him.
If we trade one of Bozak or Connolly id be interested in Gaustad, but it would depend on the price. I think he will ask for a lot more than he's worth since the UFA crop is so bad this offseason. Certainly more than 2.3 mil. I'd also look at Jason Arnott as another option.
Not sure what Lu will cost but I think it would cost more than that.
Not sure if this is reliable but I thought I would post it, found it on Bleacher Report

The Florida Panthers are serious about bringing back Roberto Luongo to South Florida, one league source told TFP on Sunday.
Speaking on the basis of anonymity, the source indicated that Luongo is now only willing to waive his no-movement clause to Florida, where he spends his off-seasons.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are also among the teams extremely interested in acquiring Luongo, who has 10-years left on his contract, but unless the veteran netminder changes his mind in the near future, that doesn't appear to be a possibility.
It's believed the Vancouver Canucks are demanding a package that includes center Nick Bjugstad, something the Panthers are not willing to do.

Jake is important. But we still don't know 100% what we are getting with him, although I am very hopeful (love rielly as well btw). But with gunnarson, you know exactly what you are getting, and that is defensive first stability (which we don't have a lot of). That's why I believe, especially in the short run, that gunnarson is huge to our team

And that makes him replaceable. Notice I didn't say expendable. We would need to replace him with veteran stay at home presence (D Murray).
I don't disagree with you, in that I also don't believe Gunnarson is a top-pairing defenseman, but that doesn't mean he wasn't our best defenseman last year. He was one of the only ones who, I believe, didn't complete suck during our huge slide down the standings. I think Phaneuf, Gardiner and JML are all better defenseman when they're on their games, but last year Gunnarson consistently played well.
Saying that, I would certainly be okay with the Leafs at least entertaining the idea of Berglund for Gunnarson, but I wouldn't want to see the Leafs add anything of significance, and I don't think I'd want to see them get any less value for him.
