Eskin says Parenteau is back-up plan

Reported that Bobby Ryan is a longshot and that Parise is Flyers' #1 target

But some new news is that P.A. Parenteau will be the back-up plan if Parise goes to Pittsburgh or somewhere else.

Ughhhhhh

I haven't watched him that closely. What type of player is he like? Could he be on the top line with Giroux? And Parise you knew would be Homer's top target, but still is very unlikely.

He's probably one of the best examples of a one-way player in the league. He was great with Tavares but he plays absolutely no defense. I don't like signing him to a big deal.

Great passer with good hands an excellent vision. Mediocre skater, average shot. Low endurance, bad defensively.

In the right situation, he can be a very productive offensive player, buut he is the definition of a complimentary player. Much like Leino.

Yeah I have a feeling his deal will be like what Leino got and I'd really rather it not be the Flyers who sign him.

I'd rather go after Semin if we're getting a one way player...

I just want them to sign Parise. Giroux and Parise would be amazing to watch together.

This.

Our main objectives at wing as of right now should be

1, try and trade for Bobby Ryan
2, try and convince Parise to sign here
3, sign Semin
4, sign Parenteau

Ryan > Parise > Semin > Parenteau IMO

I like Ryan more than Parise, especially for Gs wing.

I'd prefer Parise and Semin over Ryan. You don't have to give up assets for them

Well I'm not factoring that in. I'm looking at this from strictly a hockey perspective and not an asset management perspective.

If you gave me the choice of Ryan, Parise or Semin to play on Claude Girouxs wing for the foreseeable future, I pick Bobby Ryan every time.

He's the youngest option, he's got the most room for improvement (IMO), he's a flyer at heart, and think his style of play would just mesh the best with Gs out of the 3.

**** Semin, I don't want someone like that on my team. Sure he can score goals but let someone else overpay him. Parise is a winner, we want him and no one else. I'd take Ryan, but at this point I'd rather just sign Parise and lose no one else.

I will die of unhappiness if we sign PA Parenteau. Guy is a plug. Gonna be like Leino last year where ever he gets his pay day. Ugh.

I never really thought I'd say this, but if we go the free agent route for a top-6 winger, I'd prefer Semin over P.A.

they have to get a winger for giroux if jagr, semin, zach p arent there, i can see them pushing for ryan if all else fails, although they probably are.

i think the ducks will cave on trading ryan for someone else on the flyers, because they cant have ryan sitting out the season, they got to trade for someone other than schenn.

From = http://forecaster.thehockeynews.com/...ayer.cgi?2515:

ASSETS: Has excellent offensive instincts, which he exploits brilliantly on the power play thanks to deft puck control and passing ability. Can line up both at wing and center if need be. Is a proven scorer in the minor-pro ranks.

FLAWS: Is somewhat undersized and needs to keep adding more muscle, because he can be knocked off the puck. Not an especially great straightline skater, he must also continue to work on his play without the puck.

CAREER POTENTIAL: Skilled forward.

Maybe for the 3rd line? I just don't know where he'd fit....

EDIT:

Why not try for Jiri Hudler? He is small, but he knows how to score.

Probably one of the most one dimensional forwards in the game.

29 years old and only had two decent seasons in the NHL.

Will command a big increase; wouldn't be surprised if he wanted $3m.

Personally, not a fan.

I'd say drive for Doan instead. He's much older, but he's sure as **** more reliable.

I really want bobby ryan badly without giving up any of Giroux, Schenn, Couturier or Coburn. ANaheim wants a 2c so maybe somehow a 3 way deal with Voracek?

As an Islanders fan my 2 cents would be, if your PP lacks that right handed shot playing off the left handed boards you should sign him. If you already have that spot filled then PAP's strongest asset will be completely wasted.

On the positive side the amount of improvement from last season to this season was noticeable. While a large part for his 67 points was due to Tavares, he did create some offense for himself

If all he wanted was 3M, I would assume he would have signed already. While I don't think he will get as much as Grabovski(5.5M over 5 years), that is sort of the bar set for a guy of PAP's level

Does Brierre play that as well? I know he is right handed.

All that being said PAP sort of becomes very redundant and you won't get maximum use out of what he could provide to your team so I would stay away

I would stay the hell away from Parenteau. As has been pointed out, he's terrible defensively and we really need to get a forward or two who knows where the defensive zone is without being given directions (especially if they are to play with either Giroux or Brière). He's also been playing with Tavares for a couple of seasons to boost his stats and will look for a big payday. Also, if the idea is to pair him with Giroux, I don't know if that's such a great idea, we'd probably benefit more to find someone looking to shoot a little more often.

After Saturday's trade, re-signing Jagr certainly makes more sense than Carle. Why not just do that instead?
