I don't think anyone is upset with him personally. I'd try to find more money if I could in his shoes as well. But this could also very well turn into the Zherdev situation where he turns down the offer, and comes back later after changing his mind and the offer is no longer on the table from the Rangers.

Sather is not going to sit and wait on Prust, I expect him to make offers to address our 4th line depth. There are a lot of good UFA options out there when it comes to depth players.

I wish Prust hadn't demanded so much. I'm surprised to see everyone turning on him so quick.

I still like the guy. hope he comes down to 1.8.

And then further comes down from that.

I like Pruster. He's been a great Ranger. But our bottom 6 was useless all playoffs, and spending 1.8 mil on a non-upgrade hurts.

Who said what first? From what I read in Ranger Rants (the blog by Gross) it sounded like Prust was reacting to the Post article (which was originally posted at "1:57AM" Saturday morning). As I said earlier, we don't know what has been said and what numbers have been thrown around between Prust and Sather. Chances are there's a lot that we don't know.

I wouldn't give Prust more than 1.5. Sorry, fan favorite and all and a solid PKer but for a 4th line winger he's very replaceable. Weird feeling he signs with the Islanders or Canadiens though.

I'd love it if he comes to 1.5. He's a good fighter, a great checker, and one of the best on the PK.

During the Devil's series, Kovy had Pruster alone on a pk and Prust had no stick and was hurt. Kovy tried everything possible, but Prust stuck with, and never gave him a shot. One of the elite wingers in the game and a 4th liner. Killed 5 seconds off the clock, and managed to knock Kovy off the puck.

I'm fine with a little over 1.5 for that.

No problem what so ever in what Prust is doing. The guy wants to get paid. Any one of us would be doing the same thing if in the same situation. Best of luck to him.

Prust needs to think of himself and family first, I agree but the Rangers need to do what in the Rangers best interst also. There are plenty of guys out there like Prust to choose from.

A big LOL at all the people who want Prust to leave and use NJ's 4th line as the reason.

All 3 of those players played way over their heads, and won't come remotely close to producing at the same rate.

Prust is as good as it gets for a 4th liner. He scored 29 points 2 seasons ago, and had a bit of a down year this season. Doesn't change the fact that he'll fight anyone, is as good of a teammate as you can ask for, a fantastic penalty killer and can chip in offense occasionally. He is 10x better then Ryan Carter, Stephen Gionta and Steve Bernier.

Ironically if there was any player I thought would take a hometown discount it was Prust. 2.2 is too much, but I in no way want to see him leave.

1.8 million for 3 years is a lot more money than i think the guy is gonna fetch on the open market. it's in his family's best interest to take it.

Actually, does anyone have the video of that?

I think you mean 1/3 of one of the elite wingers in the game. Kovalchuk was playing at 30% most of that series.

That's fair, but even 1/3 of Kovalchuk was as dangerous or more looking than any of our forwards that series.

dime a dozen on offense
so so fighter with a big heart
4th liner on a normal team

This is really one of the only things I disagree with. He had a bad few bouts toward the end of the year, but he's a very good fighter. It's just that he's under 6 feet tall, and as a fighter in the NHL, that's rough.

There's no handicap in NHL fighting. Fighting and losing does nothing for your team.

I think most of us are fine with him coming back at that price. You just don't go on twitter and bash management when he's been offered a good amount of money

yea I could see Burke overpay for him although they have overpaid for a ton of players. They still have Orr chilling in the minors for a million as a goon. Prust is also from London ON which is only a few hrs from TO. He should go to Montreal though, they need a fighter

What's up DG. I agree with all of your summary except..."so so fighter with a big heart" Big heart, absolutely. But...I would definitely classify him as a very good, not excellent but very good fighter that lacks power.

Agreed, it's more the fact that he will challenge anyone and not get his ass beaten.

Prust doesn't do much damage in his fights, he doesn't receive too much either.

He actually reminds me much of Barnaby in this sense. However Barnaby was a MUCH better agitator then Prust.
