Does anyone actually think he will sign anywhere but New Jersey? All signs point there.

Why wouldn't it be done by now?

A smart organization gives him their best competitive offer by now.

The moment he hits the open market and those desperate offers come in it becomes infinitely more difficult to get him to stay.

Guys don't "test the market" and then resign with their original team. If he hits the market he's gone.

You couldn't be more wrong. Players have resigned with their team after testing the markets. Players have even taken less money to resign with their team. Your also talking about one of best run organizations in sports.

It happens but more often than not it doesn't. You are forgetting that Teams have owners that can pay him more and have better teams.

Have they?

Who are some players that have hit the open market and then decided to stay at tjier original team...

Because it certainly isn't the norm.

He seems like a stand up guy. Everything he and the Devils organization have said point to him re-signing. I just can't imagine him leading them on like this and then jetting(but if he does, I cant even imagine the hate for him from Devils fans). The Devils will have no problem giving him 7 mil a year for X amount of years.

I don't disagree as that I the perception I get as well...

But why isn't it done yet simply to diffuse the situation.

If he has every intention of resigning with the Devils, and they have every intention of resigning him, there is no reason not I do it now.

The moment he is offered stupid money by a team it becomes much harder.

A lot but I'll just mention Elias.... Brodeur resigned with the Devils for less money.

Maybe the NHL told him and the Devils to wait til July 1st, that way to keep the buzz of free agency going.

Seriously though, who knows. I'm not sure exactly what goes into the negotiations, but I assume they would give him a little time after the finals and then start up talks. They still have a week, but imho I just cant imagine him going anywhere else.

I have always thought he would return, but the fact that the two sides have yet to even begin negotiations is a little odd. I know Lou does things his way, but I'm starting to get the feeling that he's leaving Jersey if he makes it to July 1st.

We're either of those guys looking at crazy money elsewhere though?

When we're the Elias and Brodeur deals? How old we're they?

(Not saying it's untrue) How do you know they haven't started negotiations?

There's nothing (that I know of at least) that points to them having negotiated. Now I'm pretty sure that they have-but I think Parise is going to bolt. I don't blame him for testing the waters, and I think he goes to wherever gives him the most money.

Let's assume that Parise stands by his word that he wants to have an opportunity to win, not just now, but for many years. Which organizations present that option to Parise that could afford him?

I'm thinking Pittsburgh and Los Angeles with Detroit behind those two. Buffalo and Minnesota can throw a lot of money at him, and while I do think the Devils have the best shot at retaining him, I'm not so sure of their long term stability, especially since nobody knows what is going to happen in net once Brodeur retires (which is going to happen sooner than later).

Hmmm

I'd say we (Colorado) have atleast an outsider's chance, right? If this is all we need to join the club. We have $ too!

Lou will run this team until he dies, and that won't be for a while. Even then, the best run organization in the league will not be in "the same boat" as your Wild are now.

Mostly to preempt the "lmao pens fans who thought they were getting parise! lol!" posts if he doesn't sign, my thoughts are precisely these.

Minnesota, Los Angeles and, yes, the Red Wings are high on the long list of clubs expected to try to lure Parise. The Penguins' sales pitch should be as good as that of any other team, but that doesn't mean it will be appreciably better than the others.
We have a shot. Nothing more, nothing less.

We don't know what's going to happen when Marty retires, but I don't think they're in danger of becoming a second rate organization when he does. Besides, according to HF he's been done for the last two years.
