Reading posts like this and others in this topic... you guys gotta be kidding me.

Sure Couturier is good but saying those are the only 3 guys you would trade him for is ridiculous. Salary cap ignored i could probably list 50 guys id trade him straight up for

Situation dependent. If you are insinuating the same result will take place I think its safe to say barring injury G will be here for a while. While Richards had admirable qualities, there was never a debate as to whether he was amongst the top 3 players in the world.

I'm not insinuating anything. Just reminding everyone that we're dealing the wild toboggan ride that is the Paul Holmgren Flyers.

I would wager there would be quite a few I would trade him for. I'd say there's at least 25 teams in the league with players i'd trade him for easily, and many of them have several players. Couturier is a fine asset, but most teams have gems of their own. (More importantly, ones on D)

Even still there are at least 30 players in the league that are worth every penny of what they earn.

Example, a guy like Loui Eriksson is a perennial 70 point guy signed to a 4.1M cap hit through 2015-2016. Sean Couturier surely has that kind of potential and is already a defensive stalwart, but having seen so many players look great for a year and never develop, I'd seriously consider a guy like Loui Eriksson and several other guys... RNH, Tavares, Pietrangelo, McDonaugh, Bogo, Stamkos, Crosby, Malkin. I'm certain there are others as well.

Even a lot of the Yes and Probably would probably be more like "No" when thinking more about contracts and then even further, the needs of this team. For example, none of the goalies make sense considering the lock in on bryz.

Fact is, a 19 year old on an entry level deal that can play at that level has value well beyond what his actual current on ice production is.

In terms of young top-pairing defenders, I'd trade Couturier for Karlsson first and foremost. Should I assume you left Karlsson's name out because he is more untouchable than Couturier?

From your list, possibly Ekman-Larsson, but I'd have a tough time with the Subban deal. Yes, Subban is a first-line defender ... for a team that finished in 28th place. Subban is flashy, has a great shot, can carry the puck very well and is tough to boot, but he can also get too cute for his own good, needs to improve positionally, and his negative league-wide reputation has been cited from many sources, including the Flyers' former captain.

His value is so unknown it would be hard to trade him unless you get a young proven player with a good cap hit. How many players are even close to that?

In a vacuum, I'd trade him for a lot of those players listed above. With context and all things being realistic, especially since we've got Giroux as our 1C and the direction in which this team is going, there are very few people I'd trade him for.

I don't think id ever trade him. Weber would be nice and all. We still would lose his size up the middle we desperately need. Lost a lot of defensive prowess up the middle with Richards and Carter trades. Could be a 60-70 point career guy and a selke nominee. Hell his offensive potential is high and unknown. Who knows if he surprises us or he is what most project. He's shown he can play a gritty in your face game. When he adds some mass he will be pushing guys out the way. When you look at the complete picture.. He's too valuable IMO.

I'd rather us hold on to the kid and watch him grow.

Couts could turn into a Sundin-like player..no thanks to trading him even if right now it's all potential. I've seen enough to be convinced of his massive upside..

Kid had a great rookie season and is only the beginning of what is to come. 19 years old and we want to trade him? I believe he was the steal of the draft. At one point he was projected to go number 1 in that draft, but got sick and stock dropped. We should consider ourselves lucky to have been able to draft him. Just my opinion of course.
