Alexei Emelin signed to 2 year extension (2M/year)

I'm a HUGE fan of this guy, so I'm eager to see what kind of contract he will get as an RFA this summer.

According to capgeek he made $984,200 last season, so I imagine he will get a raise on that.

If it were up to me, I'd give him a 3 year contract, but I can see 2 years being more realistic.

What kind of money do you see him getting? Between 1 and 1.5 million per season? I would assume it has to be under 2 million..

Either way, lock this guy up Bergy!

EDIT: http://canadiens.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=636590

Emelin signed!

3 years 5.1 would be my hope.

I think would be something like 3mil/2 years. Would love too have him for a 3rd year at that price, but I don't think he would take it. Would he be UFA after the 2 years?

The same kind of contract Gorges got as a RFA + inflation so i guess between 1.2 and 1.5.

1.5 sounds legit, i dont think he would accept 3 years at that salary tho.

The more years the more money he will want. I am thinking 2 years at $3M/season or something close would be a fair second contract.

That's kind of a random figure...
How about an acceptable range? Say 1.5 - 2.5 per for 2-4 years?

More on the years, less on the money figure. 1.5 M$ for 4 years. Might not accept it, make it 1.75 $ for 3 years.

I really hope he'll stay with us for something around 1.5 to (at max) 1.75 per year, 2-3 years.

He's not worth a whole lot right now. He's a decent third pairing guy.

He was a rookie though, so he may very well be much better in the coming season.

I think he'll be a 2M per year signing. Length? In the past, it would have been a 1 year contract. With Bergevin, we don't know but I'll bet he tries to sign Emelin for 3 years.

I'll say, 1.3, 1.5, 1.7.
Total: 3-years @ 4.5M.

If we can lock him up for 3-4 years I'd be tempted. I think that with his style, Emelin is a VERY tradable D, and we should be able to get a fairly low price tag since he just had 1 rookie season and while I loved him it's not like he broke some NHL records or turned out to be a 1st pairing D.

I'd go with what Whitesnake is suggesting, try 1.5M for 4, and if they refuse 1.75M for 3. I'm not sure what his place will be in the organization in the long term when all the new D graduate (Beaulieu, Tinordi, Ellis?, Thrower?) and depending on what happens with Markov (because while many write him off long term right now, if Markov actually gets back in shape and can play similar to what he did before injury he'll be a keeper likely for the next 5-7 years), and depending on his own progression. If he keeps improving, he might be an excellent 5-6th D, or a decent robust #4. If others pass him, hopefully he can get a nice return in a trade.

3 years would probably require an over payment.

Exactly which is why I am thinking they will offer him 2. Who knows maybe he will surprise and take less money then expected for a 3-4 year term.
