What's wrong with Diaz? Why all the hate? He's a pretty good player. Won't turn the world upside down, but he's at least better than Weber.

As for the free agents, I think we'll go for Parenteau. I'm OK with it, but I just fear the price tag. If David Jones was able to get 4M per, what is Parenteau gonna get?

For the last time, when it comes to free agency - Doan will not sign anywhere but Phoenix. He has stated that he will not move his family anywhere and would sooner retire then take an offer from another time.

Hot damn.

Whitney - Plekanec - Gionta
Pacioretty - Desharnais - Cole
Moen - Eller - Ott
Bourque - Gaustad - White

Would never happen, but I'm putting in NHL '12 right now and simulating a season with that line-up!
We could get another top 3 pick with that lineup

Not FA though. Would have to be through trade scenario.
He'd be perfect. Wins faceoffs, tough, Bruins despise him. Great 3rd line C.

Eller could move to the LW I guess.

You're kidding right?

Even if the DD line produced the exact same, adding a PPG guy like Whitney would be unreal. Gionta and Plekanec could both potentially score 30-goals with Whitney on their wing.

That third line would be a very good physical line, that is responsible defensively, can throw the body, and chip in offensively.

The fourth line I just threw together, change it out you want - although that line could chip in offensively too.

I want an older winger on a short term deal to patch the top 2 lines. Think Jagr or Whitney. Or a bit of a reclamation project with an untendered RFA like Fehr. I don't think we pay $7 million a year to get Semin, and there's no chance Parise comes here.

On the blueline, we're not getting Suter. Everyone else is decidedly mediocre and will get a massive overpayment. We need one guy, and preferably a short term too. I think we need to make a trade, and we have a fist full of 2nd round picks next year. Find a team that wants to unload a $3 million D-man. I think Hjallmerson on Chicago is the guy we should look at.

My bad didn't see Witney/Gaustad.

Steve Ott good fit for CH?

Pierre LeBrun brings a good point here. Steve Ott would be a really good fit for Montreal.

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun
Steve Ott remains in play ... My own personal belief is that he'd be a great fit in Montreal. He's got size and skill, defend some teammates

Anyone else thinks he could be a good fit?

I'd agree with him. His contract's a bit expensive, but I guess when you factor in everything he does, it's not too bad at all. I wonder what Dallas would want for him.

The exclusive negotiating rights to Mathieu Darche and Chris Campoli.

We need a first line you mean.. Cuz in my books, Patches DD Cole = a great 2nd line!

If that's our 1st line next year, we can welcome Mackinnon lol!

I don't think Diaz is very good. Not a great offensive player, not physical - brings nothing to the table. Move on.

With Markov, Emelin, Subban and Gorges we need the 5 and 6 guys to brings something to the table. See the 2 teams in the final for examples.

I'd be all over Dustin Penner on a 2 year deal and Jagr on a 1 year deal.

Sign Roszival for 2 years as well.

Who knows if they'll be a divisional contender, or a lottery pick contender (LoL at all the people claiming the various possibilities as lottery pick contender, last years finish was an anomaly. Look at all of the stats, and look at all of the stats for lottery teams for the past 10 years.) but it will allow several young guys to develop properly in the AHL and will add size and experience to the line up.

We need a Gleason type of d-man. That defense is terribly small and unintimidating.

On the must have list:

Bryan Allen

On the if cheap & not too deep list:

Parenteau.
Jagr.
Bouillon.
Begin (Would be great on a 2 way, playing with the Dogs)

Other than that I'd stay away from the other bidding wars and try to get rid of our own problems.

He's one of my picks for the 4th line.

I'm not feeling this at all. The guy is smallish and 40 years old. Can't we move forward?

We grabbed Gomez and Kaberle past prime - isn't that enough?

Any addition that is done through free agency and doesn't go longer than 2 years is good as it allows the team to properly develop their prospects in Hamilton.

Droooooollllll...

We need to trade for him tho. I'd package Kristo + one of our 2nd of 2013.
