Transactions:
Trade Meszaros
Re-Sign Carle
Sign Backup
Sign 2 UFAs from this list:

D. Winnik, W
T. Moen, W
P. Gaustad, C
J. McClement, C
J. Tootoo, W
T. Mitchell, W
D. Moore, C
T. Pyatt, W
B. Prust, W
R. Carter, F

---

S. Hartnell - C. Giroux - W. Simmonds
B. Schenn - D. Briere - J. Voracek
M. Talbot - S. Couturier - M. Read
E. Wellwood - UFA (McClement) - UFA (Pyatt)
Z. Rinaldo

K. Timonen - L. Schenn
N. Grossmann - B. Coburn
M. Carle - M. Bourdon
E. Gustafsson

I. Bryzgalov
UFA (Ellis?)

---

This roster still gives us room to sign more guys, bring more guys up or make a decent trade (B. Ryan?). I would give up a couple first rounders, Meszaros and Read for Ryan no question. With Ryan forwards look like:

Hartnell - Giroux - Ryan
B. Schenn - Briere - Voracek
Talbot - Couturier - Simmonds
Wellwood - UFA - UFA

I'm excited for the team not only going into this year but down the line. Bryzgalov is key for our future success.

What happened with Tootoo anyway? I remember him being a good checker and pest but he fell off the earth. I don't follow the western conference that much.

Substance abuse in December 2010. Got his life together and proceeded to have a great playoffs in 2010-11. Had a good, full season in 2011-12 but was pushed out in the playoffs by Radulov, A. Kostitsyn, and Gaustad coming into the mix. Predators had Smith, Spaling, Bourque, Halischuk, Gaustad, Wilson, Yip, and Tootoo all fighting for roster spots. 8 players, 5 spots. I guess they went for more offense in Bourque, Halischuk and of course Radulov and Kostitsyn instead if using Tootoo as a grinder on the 3rd line with Spaling (which worked well in 2010-11 Playoffs).

Big Tootoo fan. Rinaldo kinda makes him redundant unless we roll with both of them (Bash Bros. much?).

we can call it the stupid line.

That line would be impossible to put together.

You're forgetting that at least one of them would be suspended at all times

Sestito looked really solid. A line of Sestito/Gaustad/Talbot I would be all for to go into the season with. When Sestito gets suspended you can put in Rinaldo, but those two are completely two different players.

I know. But we still have people who cant get out of the past. Of course it doesnt help we have a GM who keeps drafting worthless slugs. well with the exception of this year.

yeah lets have 3 players on the roster who get suspended on a regular basis. I am all for tough, physical hockey. I just dont like stupid hockey players on my team.

Sestito, Tootoo, and Rinaldo are all 13th forwards on a good team.

I'd much prefer a Wellwood, McClemont/Gaustad, Talbot 4th line than anything involving the above named players.... We wonder why our team defense was suspect. A defensive 4th line would help us a lot.

exactly. Not sure about Gaustad coming here but that type of player with Wellwood and Talbot would be ideal. good defensively, can skate and can chip in goals. This team has been most effective when rolling 4 lines. When Sestito and Shelley are in the lineup that is negated.

If we're going to be spending $30M on defense and $7M on goaltending, we can't afford Gaustad at the $3ish M he'll get.

Someone said Jay McClement...I like that idea

Are people really winning to spend $2.5-3m on a 4th line centre like Gaustad?!

Which is why I think McClemment would be more ideal. Not as big, but can chew up a ton of SH minutes.

The games that went to overtime he was the best player on the ice for them in all 3 zones. Blocking shots, hustling defensively, and being dangerous in the offensive zone. If this guy didn't care he wouldn't be over on this side of the pond. He wouldn't be as talented as he is. He fits, if Parise is not here Semin is my 2nd choice.

Semin over parenteau for sure. I'd think Ryan or Parise are feasible if we really are done with our defense

Oh man Hudler! I would love him here. I had no idea he was a UFA. I feel like no one ever leaves Detroit though. Especially now that they have a ton of cash. I'd overpay for Hudler though.

I just don't like the idea of trading Coburn. 1, because he's extremely under rated around here, and the main reason our defense wasn't leaps and bounds WORSE last year, and 2, because sooner or later players simply won't want to sign extensions or long term contracts here if we keep trading them thereafter.

I'd rather trade voracek+ for Ryan.

Sign semin at 5.5 a year for 5 years. I can defend this by saying that in our system, i believe semin would absolutely thrive, and with a team that will get in your face if youre not performing, he can find his niche in philadelphia. As a result of his signing, forwards become expendable...

Trade voracek mezaros gustaffson and a 2013 1st and 2nd for bobby ryan.

resign carle at 4.5 a year for 4 years. Jagr Walks.

Hartnell Giroux Semin
Ryan Schenn Briere
Simmonds Couturier Read
Wellwood Talbot Rinaldo

Timonen Coburn

Grossmann Bourdon

That defense is scary though, and not in a good way. Carle-Schenn? I think schenn needs to be paired with either Coburn or Timonen to be most effective. He needs a positionally strong partner. Carle is far from that.

I'd rather use the money from Carle and Semins theoretical contracts and make a HUGE offer to Ryan suter. I know it's unlikely that he signs here, but it's worth a shot to really make him consider it.

Then trade Voracek, Meszaros and a 1st for Ryan.

Schenn-Giroux-Ryan
Hartnell-Briere-Read
Simmonds-Couturier-Wellwood
Rinaldo/Sestito-Gaustad/Talbot-Talbot/Prust

Coburn-Suter
Schenn-Timonen
Grossmann-Lilja/Bourdon/Gus
