There are a bunch of players I'd trade him for. I like Couturier, don't get me wrong, but he is not untouchable. I don't think anyone on this team is untouchable except Giroux. In a couple years Couturier may join him on that list, but right now he's not untouchable. That doesn't mean I'd deal him for anyone, but if let's say Weber was involved, I'd do it without thinking twice (assuming the rest of the package wasn't unreasonable).
Situation dependent. If you are insinuating the same result will take place I think its safe to say barring injury G will be here for a while. While Richards had admirable qualities, there was never a debate as to whether he was amongst the top 3 players in the world.
Depends on how much $$$ G wants.
As for the topic, I'd trade Couturier for a Defenseman, as much as Subban annoys me I would make that trade in a heartbeat. If we didn't have Bryz locked up I'd also be looking at a young goalie.

Couturier is very impressive and valuable but he's far from untouchable. If Philly could use him as the main player in a trade for the following players, he would be gone in a heartbeat.....
Shea Weber
Alex Pietrangelo
Drew Doughty
Duncan Keith
Oliver Ekman-Larsson
Adam Larsson
Erik Karlsson
Tyler Myers
Kris Letang
Brent Seabrook
Victor Hedman
Jonathan Toews
Steven Stamkos
Corey Perry
Anze Kopitar
Gabriel Landeskog
Eric Staal
Jordan Staal
Nicklas Backstrom (CAPS)
Milan Lucic
Jordan Eberle
Taylor Hall
John Tavares
Even still there are at least 30 players in the league that are worth every penny of what they earn.
Example, a guy like Loui Eriksson is a perennial 70 point guy signed to a 4.1M cap hit through 2015-2016. Sean Couturier surely has that kind of potential and is already a defensive stalwart, but having seen so many players look great for a year and never develop, I'd seriously consider a guy like Loui Eriksson and several other guys... RNH, Tavares, Pietrangelo, McDonaugh, Bogo, Stamkos, Crosby, Malkin. I'm certain there are others as well.
no for RNH straight up
no for Bogo, Pietrangelo, and Mcdonaugh. Everyone agrees on Crosby/Malkin/Stammer
I'd consider Tavares but I'd rather have a complete package center than more offense.

I'd like all of those players, but cap-hit is a real thing. It's also nice that we drafted him, maybe he will resign here cheap.
IMO Couturier projects to be similar to Kopitar.
In terms of young top-pairing defenders, I'd trade Couturier for Karlsson first and foremost. Should I assume you left Karlsson's name out because he is more untouchable than Couturier?
From your list, possibly Ekman-Larsson, but I'd have a tough time with the Subban deal. Yes, Subban is a first-line defender ... for a team that finished in 28th place. Subban is flashy, has a great shot, can carry the puck very well and is tough to boot, but he can also get too cute for his own good, needs to improve positionally, and his negative league-wide reputation has been cited from many sources, including the Flyers' former captain.
I forgot about Karlsson. Yes, I would trade him for Karlsson.
It doesn't matter where the Habs finished. He was facing some of the toughest competition in the league and did well.
He was only 22 this past season. Of course he will have flaws. He will also likely improve and mature.
Really? Out of any young D-man in the league today, I'd want him the most. Way more than Karlsson.
Not a lot of people watch the Western Conference enough to understand just how good some of those players are.... and I agree, I'd take Pietrangelo ahead of Karlsson today. He's number 2 right behind Weber as far as overall talent goes imo.

The only young d-man i'd move him for is T Myers. I'm not as high on OEL or Karlsson as other people on here are. Young offensive defenseman look exciting, but like smaller forwards, they hit their ceiling early.
Suter
Corsi Relative Quality of Competition 1.262
Offensive zone starts 45.7
Corsi Relative Quality of Teammates 2.059
Corsi Relative 7.3
Subban
Corsi Rel Quality of Competition 1.266
Offensive zone starts 46.3
Corsi Relative Quality of Teammates 0.416
Corsi Relative 6.3
Subban faces competition just as tough as Suter's, has much worse teammates and does just as well.
i really hate what this Corse epidemic is becoming. Subban is CLEARLY not in Suter's league. This could be solved by actually watching them play hockey.

You do realize he didn't even play a full season till he was 20. He's also a big kid at 6'4' 207 lbs. and can move the puck insanely well. He even just put up 51 points as a 21/22 year old and still seems like he's getting better. Also, the points have been going down since his rookie year (even though it's 3 seasons and he was injured last year). Also, one interesting thing to look at, every year Alex Pietrangelo played (even the ones where he only played 8 games in one season and 9 in the next) he has more takeaways as a D-man than he does giveaways, which is a crazy thought.
There's no practical, reasonable, or foreseeable trade involving Couturier that I would want to do. At least none that I can think of. I do think we have to deal B. Schenn though in order to give Couturier prime-time minutes due to having three great young centers to build around. Plus we have crazy depth at the position beyond those three anyhow. Acquiring L. Schenn does complicate things though.
EDIT: I would trade Couturier for Karlsson to be honest, but I don't see any way Ottawa would move Karlsson. They're as high on him as we are on Couturier. Higher, actually, since he won the Norris.
If the NHL had a re-draft of last last year's class I bet Couturier still wouldn't crack the top 3. He's got a ton of upside but debating whether he is worth guys like Kopitar, Pietrangelo, Karlsson, or Taveres is pretty stupid. Those guys are in Giroux's league. Anyone looking to trade Giroux for Landeskog?
Schenn is gonna be really good, why ppl hating on him here?
i agree. i don't think he's expendable at all. if we win a cup or two he'll be in the middle of it all. i seriously don't think you can go and trade the high end youth we got last summer. it would defeat the point of us getting so young. i think we have a great team that just needs to play to their potential and schenn and couturier haven't even scratched the surface on what they can do. This is one team worth being patient with.

I really like Larsson and Landeskog, but Couturier plays a style I like more. RNH is a freak, make no mistake about it. However, in a few years when cooter bulks up, I believe he will toss that kid around like a frisbee.

some of those players don't match what your saying. he can very well be a lot better then anze or tavares. kopitar didn't really pull it all together until last year. couturier is a kid and i do think you can project off a rookie season. not saying i wouldn't trade him for one of those defenseman though just cause those are even harder to find at that age.
