Easily. The kid scored almost a point per game in the AHL as a 20-year-old rookie, and he's actually decent defensively. While he's short, he's not thin, he's actually decently strong. That's definitely first round talent. He's easily a better prospect than anyone drafted in the last half a dozen of the first round. He'd go in the 15-20 range if he were draft-eligible yesterday.

I just saw a tweet about the Isle's QOs to their minor leaguers...so the Rangers might not have done it yet. Won't be far off.

I believe today is the last day for it, so they should surface pretty soon.

only Talbot and Wellman back, Vtank to Russia but qualified

So who's in CT likely? Hrvik, JAM is a UFA still..........Yogan, Miller , Thomas upfront for sure? I imagine Miller plays in the AHL so the Rangers can call him up if he does real well. Any others eligible like Fogarty, St Croix, etc? I know the Swedes are going back to Euro land, Fasth, Lindberg...........McIlrath a full yr on D coming up

anyone care about those not qualified being gone?

St. Croix isn't eligible. He was drafted out of the CHL and is only 19.

Fogarty is committed to play at Notre Dame. He won't be playing for the Whale any time soon.

Bourque
Hrivik
Wilson
Thomas
Yogan
Miller (maybe)
Kolarik
Grant

Plus if Bathgate is signed there is another one.

I think they bring back Newbury and Deveaux if possible.

Wellman will be back as well.

Wellman + Kolarik as the top-2 centers will be dynamite.

Hopefully JAM is back as well.

Fogarty is going to Notre Dame this year, so he'd lose his eligibility if he signed a contract. St. Croix is not eligible for the AHL yet.

It seems like with the influx of kids that the Rangers are parting ways with some guys to give them some room. Wellman, Thomas, Yogan, Hrivik and possibly Miller make up 5 of the 6 available top-six slots. Would have to think the Rangers are working hard to get JAM signed as well. In theory, that's your top-six. Bourque, Grant and Kolarik are under contract for next year. Jason Wilson has a contract. Would expect Parlett and Vernace to be back on the blue line as they're both under contract. Niemi probably back to the ECHL.

So that leaves:

Hrivik - Wellman - Thomas
Yogan - JAM - Miller
Bourque - Kolarik - Grant
Wilson - ? - ?

Redden - Erixon
Parlett - McIlrath

Talbot
Missiaen
Stajcer

As guys who I'd guess have a shot to be on the team next year. Not sure who they have on AHL-level deals though. Bathgate and Bell could get deals after prospect camp but I think only Bathgate would be eligible for the AHL

Rangers have ended the business relationship with Whalers Sports & Entertainment (Harold Baldwin and company), but will play in Hartford next season.

Makes you wonder if they will drop the Whale and go back to the Wolfpack.

Team name notwithstanding, the probability of the Rangers AHL affiliate moving from Hartford is very high now. They are still pissed that they lost out on the contract to manage the XL Center. AEG is not an easy company to do business with. The attendance sucks there. There are other Northeastern cities that are good candidates for an AHL club, like Glens Falls, NY.

Glens Falls is currently the home of the Adirondack Phantoms, affiliate for the Flyers. Initially this was to be a temporary home until an arena in Allentown, PA was built, but there are no guarantees that's going to happen any time soon.

Article does state that they will play in Hartford for 12-13. Will see what happens after that.

Thinking Glens Falls would draw better is hilarious, but okay.

Anyways, I am glad Baldwin is out, but I want hockey in Hartford. There will be AHL hockey in Hartford even if the Rangers leave. Guarantee this.

Any idea as to why?

Also, still holding out a fantasy that they'll play in the Barclay's Center

It hasn't been officially said yet, but I think the Baldwin/NYR thing is mutual. The guy literally owes money to the state of Connecticut because of that Whale Bowl (bad decision, should have waited until the team was a staple and figure of Hartford). Baldwin can't afford lease, etc.

That said, I can't wait to see what the ticket prices are this season. They BETTER be lower than Baldwin's. NYR does not need the money from us in Connecticut.

Are there any other arenas the whale/wolfpack can play in the hartford area other than the civic center? How about moving them to New Haven or Bridgeport? I would assume the Rangers would want to keep their AHL affiliate in the tri state area.

There's a team in Bridgeport and there's no more arena in New Haven.

Hartford should have drawn better this year but Baldwin screwed everything up. Because he has no money there was no advertising. Ticket prices were overall absurd (they actually had planned for these to drop though for the upcoming season). It wasn't the right mix. Naming them the Whale worked for a few games last season and did nothing for them this past season. Pathetic, really.

I know the sound tigers are in Bridgeport, but couldn't they, hypothetically, play in the same building? I mean who else plays in that arena? Fairfield basketball?

It's mostly just the Soundtigers, and then a few fairfield U games, plus various concerts/conventions/shows. During the week days the rink is usually not used, unless if the soundtigers have home games.

Technically it could work, but realistically it would have a 0% chance of happening. They have a tough enough time as it is attracting a lot of people to games. Also the arena itself is improving, but it still would need a lot of work. The scoreboard is antique, the locker rooms are meh, and they have a limited amount of space to work with at the arena. Basically the facility isn't really capable or having two teams.
