Hang on a minute. UFA's aren't able to sign until July 1st are they?

I would have believed him more if he said it was something big brewing in the Central or Southeast, always looks like a traffic maker when he says Northeast

I actually have to hand it to him. He accomplished two, usually difficult, goals with one short post

Goal #1.) Drive up page hits/ad revenue - mentions giant news, specifically mentions Eastern Canada which is sure to interest Leafs and Habs fans. Adding a variable timeframe means you can easily keep em on the hook for 4 days. "24-48 hours" gives you 2 solid days, after that it's easy to simply say "minor pieces are still being looked at, might be another 24-48 hours" By the time that's over it's FA time and no one cares that the major news didn't happen.

Goals #2.) Do as little work as possible - By claiming this is a massive game changer he conveniently gives himself an excuse to not work on his "big UFA domino blog" After all, why work on a domino blog when things are going to fundamentally change soon?

I'll give credit where credit is due, Eklund is good at what he does. What he does however, isn't reporting actual happenings/discussions, it's spinning up the rumor mill to drive traffic to his site.

Correct. It has to be a re-signing or rights being traded.

Or relocation, that too.

Oh, jeez. There's a difference between rumors swirling around and making an official trade call.

I can link you to the Richards thread from last year. He broke the trade a good thirty minutes before McKenzie, Dreger, etc. That thread was filled with, "LOL Eklund's an IDIOT" before the trade "officially" confirmed by McKenzie.

But dont let it get in the way of Eklund bashing.

Eklund: I can't give any details at all besides tell you that some players might be moving somewhere and it will be super huge mind blowing. Come back and give me more ad revenue at 5pm so I can tell you more about a deal that isn't going to happen ever.

Phoenix pretty much looks like done. Goldwater is running another law fight against Glendale and i believe they have good chances of winning it. In other words: the ownership situation is still a huge problem which might solved now pretty simple. The franchise might finally move.

The part about Eastern Canada will be Eklund announcing Toronto and Montreal's secession from the NHL and their move to the KHL.

At what point does Eklund bashing ever become an offense around here? Get over it people...he's seen as credible by HF guidelines.

I'm guessing this news isn't as big as we're all hoping.

Relocation wouldn't happen now though with the CBA being discussed and the schedule already released?

So, it's got to be right or a re-signing. I reckon neither though.

His vague speculation that anyone could do is horribly annoying, almost as credible as a HF posting "some **** is about to go down".

But then again, almost the whole of this subforum is baseless speculation. Guess Eklund is just the official bone thrower.

Parise re-signs in NJ and Suter re-signs in NSH. All before July 1 making this July 1 one of the worst ever.

All the *****ing and moaning about the guy has become FAR more annoying than Eklund ever has been with his inaccuracy. Just sayin...

I bet that he says at 5pm that he has news that Luongo wont waive his NTC to nowhere but Florida, even though it probably isn't true.

Agreed. The first few pages of this thread are absolutely golden:

Guaranteed Eklund's big news is a re-post of Hendricks' tweet that the Leafs aren't done yet.

Don't know if this has anything to do with it, but the RFA qualifying offer deadline is.....5PM Eastern.

Seems legit.

Although I admit, I didn't read a word of that.

So if it's a qualifying offer or re-signing for a RFA, it's got to be done by 5PM EST.

1 hour 6 minutes.

re-read it and don't see how the RFA deadline would matter. Could be a coincidence and nothing more.
