EDM interested in Hjalmarsson

I know some people suggested this but it looks like its gaining some steam.

Who would be going the other way? Gagner? MPS?

I maybe in the minority but I think that Edmonton should trade MPS for a defender before Gagner. The reason is now that they have Nail they have way more depth on the wing then down the middle.
I also think the Oil should go after Oli Jokinen though, so some say I may have been dropt on my head too many times as a kid.

I agree with you. The only way I sign Oli though is as a stop gap Centermen, 2-3 year deal tops.

Trading MPS won't garnish as much on the market as Sam will though.. Hjalmarsson has two more years on his deal than he is a UFA

Possibly.

It's going to take more than MPS to get Hjalmarsson out of Chicago.

Something around Gagner for Hjalmarsson makes the most sense.

Too risky on Edmonton's part to be trading the 1st next year, if they can't drastically improve the D in the next two weeks than that pick is guaranteed to be at least in the top ten next year. Which is too valuable to acquire two years of Hjalmarsson.

I know a lot of hawk fans are interested in Gagner because of his past with Kane, but I would hope they could work a deal out revolving other pieces rather than him.

The biggest need for the Hawks is still a 2nd line center, so I really doubt that MPS would be their main target.

I'd rather sign a Bryan Allen for ~$4M and have it cost us no assets.

Didn't Allen just sign an extension? Or am I thinking Gleason?

Unless he found the fountain of youth in Carolina, I would not wish Allen on your team, especially for 4 million a year.

Dude was a pylon in Florida.

I wouldn't trade Magnus yet.
We are pretty weak on the LW after Hall.

Is Smyth's contract done, and wouldn't one of Eberle or Hemsky slide into the LW position?

As an outsider that actually sounds like a decent deal on both sides. MPS and Frolik could both use fresh starts, and both still have Top 6 potential. Hjalmarsson is a decent Top 4 Dman for the Oilers, who would definatly help them next year, and Gagner would fill in as the Hawks #2 Center if they wanted to keep Kane and Sharp on the Wing.

If anyone had to add, I honestly dont know who would add, very balanced IMO. Maybe Chicago adds like a 5th?

Just what the Oilers need a D that doesn't like to hit, has had less then 50hts per year the last 2 years. He'll end up as a 5/6 D on the Oilers, because he'll not replace Schultz or Smid. Oilers need a top pairing D not another 2nd or 3rd pairing. Hawk fans will say he's better then Schultz and Smid, but he doesn't come close to amount of shots blocked and hits Smid and Schultz give out. He only played the PK and the Hawks PK was 27th in the league last year. Also 3.5mil is a little pricey for a 3rd pairing D unless your TO.

I hate the Oilers and I hate the Hawks. I hate them equally.
Hjalmarsson IS better than Smid ...and a bit better than Schultz imo.

No one overrates players like EDM fans do on here. If guys like Smid Schultz Petry Gagner were as good as oiler fans think they are...then they wouldnt have picked 1ST overall 3 years in a row HAHAHAH

In response to the trade offer made a few posts up.
Hjalmarsson < Gagner + MPS
Hawks would have to add something....nothing substantial..but they'd have to add...maybe a 2nd? or frolik? not sure.

I don't think he is better than Smid at all. I'd say they are two very comparable players. Smid being more physical and gritty.

Ive watched a lot of both. I'd take Hammer....not saying he's leagues better...but he's a bit better. I think this is because Edmonton doesnt really have a defensive system like other teams do. IMO the average Dman would develop better playing for a real 'systems' type coach like Hawks, or Stl or Van. Not a run and gun team like the OIlers.

I agree (as I am not big on MPS also). Just was saying I think they should move MPS before Gagner.
With the other psoter I also agree tha Oli would just be a stop gap for 2-3 year term.

I bet you didnt watch Smid last year if you are comparing him to Hjalmarsson ..
I have not seen much of Hjalmarsson but he would have to be a legit top pairing player to be better then Smid.

Just from his stats he seems like Gilbert v2.0 minus some offense
