The Justin Schultz era with the Ducks ended on Saturday.
Not that it ever got started.
Schultz, who was drafted by the Ducks in 2008 in the second round, never signed a deal or played with them. The first time he will be in a game at Honda Center, barring a work stoppage, will be Oct. 19 … as a member of the Edmonton Oilers.
The talented defenseman capped off a frenzied period of speculation by deciding to take his talent to Edmonton, notifiying the team of his decision on Saturday afternoon. Before informing the Oilers, he called the other finalists: the Rangers, Maple Leafs, Wild, Canucks and Senators.
He was able to take advantage of a loophole in the collective bargaining agreement that allowed him to explore free agency. He could do so because he played an extra season of junior hockey in British Columbia before his three years at the University of Wisconsin and did not sign with the Ducks.

He is already showing that he only cares about himself.. Told the ducks GM that he would sign with them after his college season was over.. Then told them he wasn't signing with them.. When asked why, he gave no reason.

Schultz is completely different from Gilroy. Schultz was drafted and is one of the top 15 prospects in the world right now. I don't believe he has won the Hobey Baker award, but he has all the skills and talent to become a true #1 in this league.( I haven't watched him, just from reading scouting reports)(he is believed to be better then Gardiner)
I will not pass judgement on the Anaheim problem either. I have no clue why he doesn't want to sign there, but he feels he has better opportunity elsewhere then so be it. People are also saying he is demanding top 4 minutes, but he hasn't spoken out the whole time this has been transpiring. It's all speculation for the reason he wants out or whatever, but now Bobby Mac says we have a chance to get this kid, you do it. Then sign him to an extension and trade him away.

For the money he costs I couldn't hurt to try, it's not like we have to outbid anyone, just offer him the deal and see what he chooses. He's always going to have trade value if things do go south.
