I'm pretty sure the Avs can still negotiate with him until July 1st.

Even then, he's only played 32 games in two seasons and is one hit away from retirement. It's understandable why the Avs wouldn't want him at 2.5M and IMO, are likely trying to negotiate for less.

Help me out, team: "Also, Kevin Porter not qualified, and everybody else was who was eligible." Huh? So the Avs qualified everyone but Mueller and Porter, right?
Yeah, looks like we also qualified Trevor Cann

Even if they brought in a guy a little less talented, the comfort of knowing he can show up every night and you don't have to consistently shuffle lines is nice.

His health was affecting the whole team. And you never knew when it was going to get better. I like Peter Mueller and I wish him the best of luck. Hopefully he comes back 100%. But I can totally understand why they did this, if he indeed is gone.
Because this team has lacked two things recently:

1. Good wingers

2. Goals

He fits both, regardless of injury risk.

It's June 25th.......

They still have some time to bring in a good winger who can score goals.

It's Dater, so take it with a grain of salt, but when I asked him if Cann had been qualified, he said that everybody except Porter and Mueller was qualified.

I don't know why they qualified Cann with all our goalie prospects coming up but thanks for this info Steven.

I have a feeling this is just like the Latendresse situation in Minnesota. Minnesota wants to keep Latendresse, but just not at his 2.5M QO (at least I think thats what Latendresse's QO is at), so they did not qualify him and are going to try to work out a deal for less money.

At 32 games over the past two seasons, I can't blame the Avs for not wanting to commit 2.5M to Mueller. I'm pretty confident that they will bring Mueller back at around 1.5-1.75M on a one year contract to let him prove hes healthy and back to performing.

Honestly I think this is dater just looking at the QO's list.

I'm surprised we didn't qualify Mueller.

Porter on the other hand, not so much.

I'm reserving judgement on this until July 2nd or 3rd. If they felt like they needed to open up a roster spot for Parise or someone they can depend on scoring 20 goals and being healthy, I can understand it.

That said, if they don't bring in a fowrward now, that means they are leaving Duchene with a questionable Hejduk, and hoping a prospect can come in right away and contribute.

I sure hope this results in either Parise or Mules signing for less, because if not, that means they are letting two more players go in McClement and Mueller, because of money again.

There could have been something else behind the scenes that pushed the Avs to make this decision. Honestly, it is probably not that the Avs did not want him. Snag in negotiation, etc.

I'm neither shocked nor disappointed. The upside was still there, but I don't think anyone would be happy going into the season with Mueller on one of the bottom two lines again.

But he only netted 7 goals for the team, and it's pretty much 50/50 when he plays. Even if we only sign a guy that gets 20 goals next year but plays every single game it would give this team so much more chemistry and consistency, which is something we really lacked last year. The line juggling, Sacco failing to define roles....Mueller wasn't the sole cause of those things, but his health was certainly a good part of it.

I think we would have made the playoffs last year had Mueller played all year. I'm sure the Avs thought so too. But if the guy can't be counted on you gotta find someone else to try and fill the void and move on.

Hopefully I'm wrong and we sign him for $1.5M or something but I don't want to count on Mueller again like we did last year. I'd only bring him back in a role like Svatos a few years back where he's filling in on a part time basis.

Not resigning him would be such a mistake, why would we be patient with him all these years just to let him go for nothing. I dont get it. He stills has a ton of potential they better resign him. I also thought that he was still a rfa even after July 1st?

Mixed feelings. Hard to deny all that potential, but with his track record he just isn't worth the intrigue.

Hope they can lock him in at a smaller hit and that he comes back and stays healthy and plays near his ceiling. But that's a lot to ask.

I feel we need both Semin (let's be honest Parise is a reach) and Mueller to do well. I"m sure if he's healthy he gets 40 pts minimum wherever he goes and that's conservative. Needs to be brought back for at least an year...it's not like we're gonna be giving the roster spot to a prospect like Joey Hishon.

I'm thinking the Avs are going to spend some money on Sunday, or at least try to.

Mueller and Avs both know his career is running short and he should take all the money he can get. Let him go to FA. More power to Mueller if he can get a big deal and big money before the next concussion hits and he has to retire.

They will try, but I honestly do not know what is out there that the Avs would target besides Parise and Suter (who the Avs will not get). Throw out names, team!
