Stoll re-signed with LA apparently.

Staal joins Staal in Carolina. Lets see how that trade turns out for both teams.

Pierre going into crazy fan girl mode when talking about the Penguins...shocker.

He's in permanent fan girl mode, but then he goes into crazy orgasmic fan girl mode at times. It's creepy.

How highly did the Blue Jackets value defenseman Ryan Murray before taking him with the No. 2 overall pick in Friday’s first round of the NHL Draft? Enough to turn down an eye-opening offer from the New York Islanders, who, according to numerous NHL sources, offered all of their picks—one in each round—for the right to move up from No. 4 to No. 2 for Murray.

That’s right, for the Jackets’ No. 2 pick, the Islanders offered pick Nos. 4, 34, 65, 103, 125, 155 and 185.

Howson clearly does not understand the concept of a rebuild. Think of how many assets they would have right now if they had pulled the trigger on that deal and/or the Nash deal.

That is a stupid trade to make if you are NYI but I at least see they have the farm system stocked and think he anchors the blue-line and maybe believe that. I just don't see how Columbus turns that down even if it shouldn't be offered.

CBJ should have taken that deal and ran with it. That's just a stupid amount of assets for NYI to give up. Even if CBJ didn't want to draft that much, they could have turned a handful of those picks around in a trade for an established NHLer.

Yeah, I think they should have done the deal also. One team trading their entire draft for one player- we're talking Mike-Ditka-trading-for-Ricky-Williams territory. Or even the infamous Herschel Walker trade that basically cemented the Cowboys dynasty in the '90's. Gotta make that deal, even if it's a relatively weak draft class.

Those are the kinds of trades we made in our Eastside Hockey Manager leagues, when teams just *had* to have the next guy on the board, no matter what it cost.

They do have on ESPN rumors that the offer for all the picks was contingent on Yakupov falling to the second pick. That probably makes a lot more sense from a Isles prospective, helps them reel in their Russian prospects. Still way too much but I at least see the idea of Tavares and Yakupov.

Chris Nichols ‏@Nichols_NHLPool

Peter Mueller not qualified by Avs, per @adater. On way to UFA. Sure, some health concerns, but could be huge pickup on the open market.

Kinda surprised by that. Didn't he make around $2.5m last year? Not exactly a lot to pick up for an option. Unless he has some lingering injury issues from last season putting next season at risk, I wouldn't mind rolling the dice on the guy.

I am sure this might be revisited if the Wings have to outbid the KHL for Semin.

Lucky for us I don't think Jimmy Howard will consider the KHL a big option.

The love fest for that deal is absolutely insane, and I actually like Pavelec. They're paying for the potential here, cause so far he hasn't been consistent enough to warrant a big payday.

Yeah, that CBJ - NYI deal proves why Howson should be fired.

It's hilarious. There is no way on Earth that is a good contract.

Just wondering if any of you guys have considered Huselius? Another Samuelsson situation maybe? You've got to figure he comes at a pretty decent price considering his injuries and inconsistent play.

I agree with the majority that it was a stupid amount for the NYI to offer up, and at least just as stupid for CLS to turn down, I'm glad for Murray's sake that it didn't happen (the bit about the deal actually being for Yakupov I read was not true). Can you imagine the pressure that kid would have been under? The defenseman someone paid their entire draft for? That may very well have stunted his development, or even killed it completely at some point.

I'd like to think he'd be a backup plan to the backup plan. I know all this armchair GM stuff is unrealistic, but deep down inside, I do hope the Wings brass are at least considering making a big time move. If they aren't aggressive the moment July 1st hits, you're starting the season miles behind the competition without even playing a game. You can't only rely on players like Franzen, Filppula and the bottom 6 to step up.

It is interesting and have seen several people point this out on the main board but how Doan has been recruited by Toews with open comments about having him come join the Hawks actually technically violates the tampering rules.

Maybe helps explain how Howard seemed at first to be in the train of thought that, well if Suter or Parise want to talk he would gladly give them his number, to a non commitment on it. Really all they are supposed to discuss is the city and things of this nature. We all know this kind of stuff goes deeper in most cases but it would seem Toews has crossed a line that Bettman has gone out of his way to establish and is in the current CBA.
