How about an acceptable range? Say 1.5 - 2.5 per for 2-4 years?
lots of nhl contracts are random figures.

At this point Emelin is a solid bottom pairing guy who is sufficient in his defense/offensive game, but brings a huge physical dimension and he still has the potential to improve his offensive and defensive games.

I don't see anything longer than 2 years being in the cards without an over payment. I think we will 2-3 years in and around 1.75M-2.25M cap hit. Just enough time for him prove himself, provide us with needed depth and also gives young defense men like Tinordi, Ellis, Beaulieu, Thrower and Dietz time to emerge and evaluate their situation.

No bro...I actually multiplied 1.7 by 3.

There was no division needed. Thankfully.

How many more years does he have as a RFA, I thought he could be a UFA after this season unless signed ?

I can see 2 years and around 3 mil. Give him those 2 years to establish himself as a top 4 guy. He showed flashes and promise last year but seemed to tire at the end. Now that the adjustment is out of the way I think he can give us a #3-4 calibre defenseman season.

you guys are aware he'd get 3-4 Millions/season easily in the KHL? some ppl even talk about a 'decent bottom pairig guy'. idk if that is proper recognition of his traits.

Most Russians would make more money in the KHL, even franchise players like Malkin.

Hate to be that guy, but I'd be careful with thinking long-term with this guy. You can't have a player hold a team hostage and force their hand just because of the threat of bolting to the KHL. Not saying that is the case at all, but just saying that can't be a reason for a long-term deal.

Truth is, this is a player who despite the amazing hits (and I love watching them just as much as the next guy), was a team low -18 last year and at times showed very distinct signs of being lost, out of position etc. A lot of his errors led directly to goals. I know he's a fan favourite and this won't be popular but although he is a well above average hitter, he has a lot of refining/work to do in all other aspects of his game.

One thing I will say is that I was a bit surprised that they didn't use his offensive upside a little more last year. I remember those vids of him on the PP in the KHL and he showed very brief stints of that last year. I think that there is more offensive potential there for him. But I would hope to see leaps in terms of developing his defensive game and specifically his positioning and play without the puck.

Right now, we know he can throw big clean hits and block shots... But he was -17 too !

He is already 26 and he has always the KHL card up his sleeve. So, if the Habs doesn't offer him a big enough and long contract, he will just go back home to the KHL.

He played on a team that finished 28th place overall, I wouldn't put much weight on negative +- stats.

Did you read that somewhere, cause he wasn't making anything close to 3-4M in the KHL from what I heard. Last I heard he was making over 1M with AK Bars, granted you have to add in the other benefits like free housing/car and much much lower taxes.

I'd be OK with a 3 year $7 million contract ( $2.333 M per ) and I agree with those saying he has some untapped offensive skills...

Maybe a little less than 2M/year if it is a 1 or 2 year contract. He probably will not accept a long term contract under 2M/year.

He will be better next year and he we need what he can bring to the team. I am very happy that he came in North America. 2 years ago, I though that he could play his entire carrer in the KHL.
