What if the Stanley Cup got lost/stolen/destroyed?

Unlikely scenario with the high security caravan that travels with it (plus I'm sure that thing is chipped on the inside so they always know its exact location.

But suppose for some reason, something happens to it...and now there is no stanley cup.

What does the NHL do? Does it create another blank cup that looks exactly like the old one and start filling it in? Does it create another different trophy? Or take one of the old cups out of retirement and use that again?

They are going to have to replace it sooner rather than later. We only have room for so many rings on that cup. They may have to make indivdualized cups and hand them out like they did for World series trophies. Send each franchise the amount of cups they would have won for some consistency

Probably use the exact replica they have on display at the Hall of fame.

You know they take off rings of older teams to add in newer ones, right? They'll just keep doing that.

Never knew they replaced old rings, thought they kept adding on. I stand corrected

once the current bottom ring is full, a top ring is removed and put in the hall. And a new blank ring is added

Wait, does the replica at the HoF have the same mistakes as the original?

The NHL would desperately try to keep it as secret as possible, just like how they replaced the original Stanley Cup (in 1970, I believe).

"Very secret" It's called the Hockey Hall of Fame. Costs 20 bucks to get in.

I like to think its kept somewhere really really cool, like a temple in one of the uncharted games

They'd get a new one and nobody would know the difference.

Hmmm ... their are 3 Stanley Cups the original that never leaves (too fragile to be handled any longer) the HOF and 2 replicas. So if the SC was stolen/lost it wouldn't actually be the real one, they would probably just make another replicaif the SC couldn't be recovered.

The Stanley cup is a symbol really. It matters not. If you win 16 games in the spring, you become a champion forever
