No way Voracek or Coburn get traded, I say we keep both. Voracek with steady ice time beside giroux could eclipse 70+ points for the first time in his career and Coburn is solid. Wouldn't mind if they traded Mez but i wouldn't care if they kept him as well.
Why does everyone keep putting Mez in trade rumors? He was one of our bests defensemen in 2010-11, he had a rough season last year, but he's still solid imo. There's no way we trade him in our situation unless there's a better defensemen coming back.

Cost. He'll be the 6th defenseman making more than 3.5M. It's not that he wouldn't be a great 6th defenseman, but rather that it would make our defensive corpse cost too much once Carle's deal is officially signed.
sign semin, mcclement, backup goalie, souray or another dman maybe allen, garrison, gill
trade mez, gust, 1st rp, for ryan

People fail to realize it's no longer a moronic idea to pay well for 3rd pair d-men. 3,5M was plenty of money few years back but now that the cap has gone up alot... it's close to nothing. Also you gotta have solid 3rd pairing to be able to reach for the cup.

Which ends up being a second pairing through injuries anyway.

Agree. On a 23 man roster the average cap hit is just over 3mm per player.
Sign semin at 5.5 a year for 5 years. I can defend this by saying that in our system, i believe semin would absolutely thrive, and with a team that will get in your face if youre not performing, he can find his niche in philadelphia. As a result of his signing, forwards become expendable...
Trade voracek mezaros gustaffson and a 2013 1st and 2nd for bobby ryan.
resign carle at 4.5 a year for 4 years. Jagr Walks.
I agree. You were asking why people wanted to dump him. I'm not necessarily one of those people, but was just stating things that I've seen repeated here about the cost of the defense and goaltender.
If we don't target a Parise or Suter and go into next season with roughly the same roster as we have today, we have enough room to carry a 4M #6 defenseman. Most of the people moving Mez are doing so a.) to get Bobby Ryan or b.) making more cap space for Parise/Semin/Suter and much needed 4th line upgrades.
I hold Mez until we sign one of those guys and if necessary, move him to get under the final cap. I don't think we'll be very successful in signing one of the top FAs available, so there's no need to move Mez.

I don't know much of McClement's game, but I liked what I read from this Bleacher Report article:
Quote:
McClement was the centerpiece of a penalty kill that improved from 30th in the league (2010 - 2011 season) to 12th after the 2011 - 2012 year.
His faceoff percentage was a strong 51.3% and McClement was one of the best defensive forwards on the team.
Considering McClement only cost $1.5 million last season (last of a 3-year deal; cap hit $1.45 mil), adding him for between that and $2 mil as a PK expert / 4th line centre would seem like a great fit.
I wonder if Jason Arnott has another year left in him? He looked pretty decent with St. Louis and played on a 1-year contract base $2.5 mil + $375,000 in bonuses. I'd be okay with Dominic Moore as a C defensive specialist, though he doesn't fit well with Talbot and Sestito/Rinaldo as an energy line.

Arnott has been a cancer the last few places he has been over playing time. NJ, WAS, and STL. He was injured in the playoofs and couldn't perform so they sat him and he pissed up a storm.

If Ryan is going to be too costly to trade for then I would look at Chris Stewart for a smaller package. He would be on a one deal so he should plenty of incentive to play his butt off.
Someone said in another thread he couldn't be traded. I assumed because he just signe his 1 year tender but I just read an article saying TOR was trying to trade for him.
STL is stacked at forward and he doesn't seem to fit Hitch's style.
Stewart is gonna cost. He is just coming off a down year, with his lowest trade value ever. St Louis aren't gonna accept the low ball offers that teams would offer for him.

It would be nice. Stewart and Simmonds on the same squad. I'd love it being they are my favorite players. They are good friends as well. But i don't see St.Louis getting rid of him yet. Also i dont' see him fitting well into defensive system.

Can't cost more then Ryan. Plus, Stewart is a bad fit for Hitch's system. Unlikely he stays in STL after this season so maybe STL moves him before his vlue goes down more if he has another meh season.
