Fred Poulin? Who is he? Reliable?

He's the guy that "broke" the story that Hartley to Montreal was official

There was a scout on with Mathias Brunet on 98.5, who while not at all a fan of Trevor Timmins, said the Habs had the best draft out of all the NHL.

So there's a scout who isn't a fan of Timmins?

What the hell is that based on?

Nice review by Poulin.

Poulin did "break" Hartley to Habs story. Unfortunate situation where he relied upon a source who proved to be about as reliable as Eklund. Lesson learned.

I actually spoke to Flames GM Jay Feaster who was pretty happy the story broke. It basically meant that everything the Flames were doing was kept internally under wraps until they were ready to release...

So positives come out of negatives...

Grand Theft Draft!
- hypothetically speaking...

#Habs selections & #NextOnes rankings:
@gally94 4th
@collberg49 10th
@thrower47 16th
@timbozon94 22nd
@BradyVail 60th
Hudon 67th

http://thehockeywriters.com/2012-nhl...inal-rankings/

Vail moved back slightly & Hudon moved up in fantasy-based ranking:
http://thehockeywriters.com/2012-nhl...ased-rankings/

Now the key is player development...

Was busy all weekend with an event and am just getting to who else we drafted...

We got Thrower in the 3rd round? Seriously?

Holy crap man... this is like 2007 all over again. Only this time we don't have some idiot GM who's going to deal everybody for Scott Gomez.

Well scouts from other teams must hate Timmins for making them look like fools

To get Thrower, Collberg, Bozon, Vail & Hudon where the Canadiens got them was absolute robbery.

Thrower is going to be a fan faourite for sure when he eventually makes the jump ot the bigs.

I was gunning for Thrower with our first second rounder, even though it was higher than a lot of scouts had him (although some had him much lower, which I would agree with).

I'm a huge fan of his type of player, he has all the tools to be a difference maker at the professional level. I definitely project him as a physical two-way Top 4 defense man. Probably my favorite pick in the draft.

Tinordi-Subban
Beaulieu-Thrower

There goes the boom.

I was really crossing my fingers that we'd get thrower at 33, but when we were up at bat, Collberg was a no brainer. I was thrilled, but a bit disappoint since we wouldn't be getting my man-crush, Thrower. Lo and behold, we take him with the Nashville pick, and I'm doing backflips at 10:30 in the morning while eating my grilled cheese.

Feels good, man.

You can thank Hal Gill for Thrower

Same. Was actually traveling and refreshing the draft thread on my phone. I was ecstatic that we got Collberg but slightly let down we'd probably lose Thrower, only to find out we got him anyways.

I haven't been this happy or felt this good about a draft since 2007.

Today pierre Mcguire called this year's draft "terrible" and said it was the worst talent level since 1999. Perhaps it doesn't matter how well the Habs did relative to the CSB lists, most of them may fall short anyway.

kind of reminds me of how it went down for me saturday

waking up hungover to my damn radio, but its team 990, and i hear "that was the voice of newly acquired montreal canadien, dalton thrower!" and im like WHAT!? we got him at 33! nice!, jump out of bed, go straight to hockeydb so i could see the list and throwers name next to 33, ..and when i saw 33 - Sebastian Collberg... i mean my jaw dropped..im just staring at my computer for a full minute , not believing what im looking at, AND confirming Thrower at 51 ... man i couldnt WAIT to jump on hf and see everyone freaking out, because i knew, we'd all be going nuts with who we selected, ..the first 4 picks were absolute home runs

it was great to see hf busy again, and to see everyone so joyous, i bet you didnt have to disperse too many infractions saturday, and the site censors itself!!

Pierre McGuire is a tool.

This is the same guy that has pin-ups of Dion Phaneuf and Luke Schenn over his bed.

I'd also like to add how Pierre "loved" pretty much every single pick there was this year, I think the only one he truly questioned was Jankowski.

These can't all be great picks. Pierre should watch enough hockey and know enough to dislike certain picks being made and at the very least provide some of that insight even if it does piss off the fans of the team he's bashing the pick of.

He certainly had no problem doing it in 2005... How did that work out, btw?

Unfortunately, in the habs case, there was just nothing to criticize? Who else is he going to criticize?

He didn't criticize any picks at all (or barely) in the first round on TSN the night of the draft, maybe he has since.. I haven't followed it.

The Habs had a great draft, weak or not.. Hard to criticize that!

It's easier for pundits to praise everyone rather than criticize. If you criticize someone (like the Carey Price "off the reservation stuff" and the pick turns out good people will remember and call you on it. If you praise everyone you look good when the player turns out good but if they don't develop nobody remembers.

Well, it hasn't really worked out has it?

But in relation to Pierre's observations on that day, he didn't criticize Price, he questioned whether the Habs had a need in that area with Theodore still young. Turns out it was prescient for other reasons, Halak was in the system and progressing at lightning speed, Kopitar was available, etc.

The "Mcguire is a tool" thing is not correct. He's right on some things, wrong on others, opinionated always. But he's one guy that sees enough hockey outside my purview that I listen to with interest and critical thinking where I can apply it.

And from what I've heard from him he doesn't bash the players (for obvious reasons) but critiques the management decisions. Maybe that's why he's come up empty on the management front.

For instance he's expressed a dim view of Columbus management, but is very flattering towards Ryan Murray.
