Gainey would though. Just watch him convince Dallas to give us Benn for Gomez.

These are the same people who wanted Mcguire to be our GM. The guy who then goes on to say Edmonton could expect to get Subban in exchange for moving down 2 spots.

No, but gainey was pretty good with his picks and prospects. He rarely gave them up. When we finally did, end up costing us big.

If NYI traded all their picks for our number 3 to take Galchenyuk, would you do it?

Yeah, it's kind of funny the way people go on and on and on about how notorious Gainey was for giving up prospects for overpaid older guys.

He really only ever did it once, it was a huge blunder so it deserves to be mentioned but people should stop embarrassing themselves and give the guy some respect.

He came into a team with very little and methodically built them up to a pretty good team. They were also a playoff cotending team every single year except for this on.

Cup contender? No, not so much. But he rebuilt the team from the ground up and gave the owners a pretty decent amount of playoff games.

Whatever, haters going to hate. In 5 years when the habs are consistently contending and have a core that (hopefully) consists of Pacioretty, Price and Subban among others hopefully people get their heads on straight and realize Gainey did far more good for this team, than bad.

he covers the ice like a Zamboni with no brakes.

Will take pain for the team ,scraping guys out of his leauge more times than not ending up on the short end.

Was a great Habs , tons of courage,to the point of near insanity at times.

Spoke pretty awesome french.

Huge joker in locker room.

I'd be okay if he signed as a 4th liner.

Would rather they just played Enqvist on the 4th line and Geoffrion and White on the wings though.

In his time here, you'll be hard pressed to find a Hab fan to say anything bad about him...he was all guts.
Had bigtime respect from his team mates , and most fans.

People, Bergevin's highest priority isn't populating the fourth line. I'd rather have him address the second line and find a solid Dman to eplace Woe-ber.

I dunno about that.

Bergervin said we lack character and toughness....I think it is a big focus .
Therrien will have tough bottom end of the line up, so i think there will be a big focus ,as you seen Blunden and Noky shown the door!

Semin, Jagr and Whitney are the only options via free agency. 1 isn't likely and 2 are old as hell and would be a 1 year option.

There's no real good, at least short term (2 years, or more) option unless it's trade.

They can get that dman. Our only forwards signed will be bottom 6ers.

Bergevin needs to find Pleks a winger, that is the biggest problem.

Blunden and Noke's problems weren't character and toughness, it was that they don't have NHL level talent. Noke was willing to get pummeled by Deveux and Cowen, that shows plenty of character.

The fourth line is actually really important for this team. It needs to be tough, gritty, and capable of playing ten minutes a game. Therrien will want that kind of line. If we can sign a McClement to anchor our fourth line and take PK load off of Plekanec's shoulders, it could be as impactful as adding a 2nd line winger. We NEED that sort of dependable fourth line. Our role players have been **** last year, and it cost us. Can't be playing soft defenceman or waiver scraps on our forward lines if they want to have a competitive, feisty four line team.

The BIGGEst problem with getting a top six winger, is that we have Gio and Cole locked up and after next year Pacioretty is gonna get a huge deal. Bergevin has to find a way to do it without ****ing up the cap future (unless the player is Parise). Jagr, Lats, or a returning AK46 on one year deals would be our best bets.

We brought in Moen to replace him, when we should've signed both. Kostopoulos was a bargain and wanted to come back, they should do it right this time around and slot him in on the fourth line RW. Would be a great vet and miles ahead of any 12th-13th fwd we had last year, and probably cost no more than 750K.

No clue why he wasn't retained. Gainey made some real strange moves.
