All that is important to him is that he gets paid and plays hockey.
I think Parise is Colorado's first option (Like many other teams obviously) but as long as Varlamov has good things to say about Alex Semin they will probably take a run at him. Especially with a huge need to bring in a top notch offensive winger to play with either Stastny or Duchene.

Colorado has 5 of the 6 wingers we really need to run three legit scoring lines.

LWs

Landeskog
McGinn

RWs

Jones
Mueller
Downie

Colorado has made zero attempt to fill that last hole through a trade, and it's pretty clear with Hejduk's play last season he won't be relied on much. He played well after his minutes were reduced and he was used in a 4th line depth role but that's about it. He'll most likely play on the 4th line and be used in case of injuries and on the second power play unit.

Semin would be a pretty nice replacement for Hejduk, and make life easier for Varlamov having another Russian player he is familiar with.

Not saying it will happen but Colorado will definitely be kicking the tires to see if he is willing to take a 5-5.5 cap hit on a longer 4-5 year contract. If he won't go below a 6M cap hit then I think they pass. IMO..

This is pretty interesting Ive never really believed that he was a liability. He did also have one of the better +/- ratings on the Caps as well. Ive seen Caps fans say that when used on the PK he was actually pretty good at it to the level of being an asset in that regard.

I would not be surprised at all if the Rangers signed him.

The consensus seems to be that they are looking to add scoring this offseason. Parise is not an option, and Nash will cost an arm and a leg.

Semin may the best option when it comes to adding offense.

To Detroit and maybe just maybe Babcock can whip him into shape so another talented player gets to stick in the NHL rather then make the choice of being lazy and greedy and head back to Russia.

If the Pens strike out on Parise wouldn't mind Semin with Geno. Isn't DB's style of player but the guy has a sick *** wrist shot.

Rub it in our face? Most sane Caps fans are ready to move on. The guys with Semin posters in their rooms aren't.

I predicted he would sign with Detroit and have a great season. Still wouldn't want him back. And it's not because Semin is a headcase or a bad teammate. He's just no longer part of the core of the Caps. They need different parts to get to the next level in the playoffs. Time to start fresh.

Lol, the European hate is strong with this one!

Just don't pair him with a 5'8 career AHL player whose only highlight video is a story about him using a longer stick despite being short.

I really want him on a line with Datsyuk to see the highlight reel. It will be nasty

He's going to Detroit at a very reasonable cap hit. A year from now everyone will be like "gee, why did we let Detroit get him for so cheap like that?" He's going to be the steal of free agency, book it.

It would be nasty to see him on a line with a Staal and Skinner, Ruutu or Jokinen.

But image if he lines up with Datsyuk and Franzen in Detroit .

Huh?

$15 million cap space, and that is wihout trading Martin. Some of us speculated that if he could be signed reasonably, Parise and Semin would work well as pickups. The following is a pretty scary lineup:

Semin-Crosby-Parise
Kunitz-Malkin-Neal
Cooke-Sutter-Dupuis
Asham-Vitale-Adams

Letang/Despres
Orpik/Paul Martin/Morrow/Dumoulin
Niskanen/Engelland

That is spending maybe $12.5 of that $15 million on Semin and Parise, leaving $2.5 million for now or trade deadline. Trade Martin and there is $5 million more. With that kind of offense I could care less about the growing pains of the kid defensemen listed above. Other teams would be too busy fishing pucks out of their nets to keep up. If Semin would sign for that, would you all still rather have Suter at another $7.5 million for likely a ten year deal? Like I said before, look at what we have defensively:

Minors:

Simon Despres, Brian Dumoulin, Joe Morrow, Derrick Pouliot, Scott Harrington, Brian Strait, Robert Bortuzzo, Philip Samuelsson, Carl Sneep, Nick D'Agostino, Harrison Ruopp, and Olli Maatta.

Pens:

Kris Letang, Paul Martin, Brooks Orpik, Deryk Engelland, Matt Niskanen, Ben Lovejoy

We lose some of our biggest advantage, blocking all that cheap talent defensively, and do not address our biggest weakness.

Parise + Semin for $12.5 per is better for this team with what prospects we have than Parise + Suter for $15 million for the next ten years

I have this feeling that the Avs will at least try. Weren't he and Varly pretty good buddies? Anyway they'd be stupid not to because they need goals really bad.

I would be willing to bet that Colorado will push a lot harder for Alex Semin now that they let Mueller hit free-agency.

Hoping Tallon goes for him, but I wouldn't count on Semin being interested in Florida.
