Nash-RNH-Eberle

Edmonton's sole reason for trading down is related to the number of high quality wingers they already have. Adding Nash doesn't exactly add to that equation.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

Apparently Jordan Staal turned down a 10 year offer from the Pens. Don't think there is any chance he will re-sign with the Pens at all.

Does Howson even have a clue at what he's supposed to be doing?

I'm not so sure that is actually true, but if it is then both organizations are run by idiots.

they both saw murray as an elite number 1 defenseman. you dont think a team would offer an entire draft class up for a weber type dman??

It may not turn out to be, but I was shocked to see NHL.com reporting it.

For two spots with that high of a risk and that strong of a D class?? Not even close.

I think, in a few years, the Blue Jackets fans will look back and realize how they were lucky to have lost the lottery to edmonton.... not that yakupov isnt going to be good, but the Jackets need a franchise defenseman even more desperately than we need a franchise forward..

If the guy even is 3/4 of what weber is, trading the whole class would have been cheaper asset wise than an offer sheet to get a guy like that

Even if you think you've found your Weber, the risk with a draft pick is huge. Injury, reaching potential, pressure, interest in the drafting team (attitude) all play a factor.

Plus, other possible elite D-men including Griffin Reinhart, Morgan Rielly, Hampus Lindholm, Mathew Dumba, Derrick Pouliot, Jacob Troubam, and Slater Koekkoek all still on the board. Then, you can work on plugging the other holes with the 11 remaining picks you'd have. I think that's insane to turn down.

Oh, I agree it is insane to turn down. I was merely arguing I understand the thought process behind it.

Gotcha. Agreed that they obviously LOVED what they saw in Murry.

That trade sounds so dumb to turn down, but when you think about it, a 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th and totally worthless. It was essentially a 2nd and a 3rd+scraps to move up from #4 to #2, which is pretty fair value. If I'm Columbus, i do it, just because I love Reinhart, but if they thought Murray was that good, they made a good choice.

no they are not. Look at our own team and you should know that. Pekka, Erat, Hornquist and Smith were taken in those rounds. there is a matter of luck and the the player you pick working hard enough to make the show, but those picks can be very very valuble.

Hockey Hall of Fame class of 2012 includes Joe Sakic, Mat Sundin, Adam Oates and Pavel Bure. Amazing group.

Surprised Shanny didn't make it, but all good choices.
