Is now the time to stick it Edm?

This topic is just a half-joke, but is now the time for Regier to submit an offer sheet for RFA center Sam Gagner and get revenge for the Vanek situation?

We would only be sticking it to ourselves if we gave an overpayment contract to Gagne in order to get him plus we'd lose picks.

The idea is not to actually sign him, just to drive up the price. Just hockey wise it's a full joke, but the revenge factor makes it a half joke.

Or Regier could resort to leaving a @#$% bomb on Kevin Lowe's doorstep.

I'd like Gagner as a player, not as a revenge move.

Too risky still...Edmonton with all their young talent could walk away and leave us with Gagner (at too high a price). Then the joke is on us.

Lowe isn't even the team's general manager anymore (although he is still employed as the president of hockey operations).

"Getting back at them" is only smart if it improves the team. Gagner wouldn't do much to help this current team.

Besides, the time to "get back" is when they have to re-up one of their young superstars. They're bound to run out of cap space eventually.

No, we should wait for someone that's actually worth a big contract, like Eberle/Hall (maybe even the younger guys since they might start to worry about having too many big contracts then), then offer sheet away.

Pretty sure giving them more picks for Gagner would be doing them a favor.

If you really want to screw them over you wait until they have Hall, RNH and Eberle all signed to big deals and then offersheet Yakupov.

This. Not to say it would or should happen, but that's when it would at least make sense.

When the Oilers made the offer on Vanek, the had a legitimate need for him and he would have made a difference on their team.

The Sabres do not need another small center and Gagner would not make a difference.

Yeah I like the idea of waiting for Eberle and Hall. You see, every summer I review the Oilers roster and look for a prime RFA target to make an offer sheet to and exact revenge. Like the tiger lies in the tall grass...waiting to pounce. Like the sniper patiently waits for his kill shot...

Ok, maybe I took the Vanek situation too hard.

hahaaa iliek this thread. I would totally be down with offering RNH a HUGE contract but Gagner? meh, no thank you. I think the Sabres prospect situation right now is extremely stable, so losing the picks would not bother me as much. But still, not for Gagner.

Revenger is a dish best served colder, be patient....

We should probably practice our evil laughs now though, just to make sure they are ready to go.

I like the idea of offersheeting an Edmonton Oiler player just not Gagner. Eberle would be my target next year and I'd probably be willing to offer him a contract in the range of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round compensation. Hall is also a RFA that year and would seemingly be their top priority. With that said Edmonton does have a pretty large amount under the cap still and they could probably match the deal, but it could hurt their chances of retaining future RFA's

Potentially get stuck with a player that you don't really want or need, AND have to give up picks too?

Yeah. Great idea.

The revenge idea never happens

The revenge idea wouldn't be done by Regier

The offersheeting of Gagner is lame

Non-starter thru and thru

Well, when you say that the idea is only a 'half-joke', people are apt to comment on the non-joke part.

So, this is what you get.
