Steve MacIntyre??? Come on now.

One thing I noticed was how many of these guys are or have played for WBS at once upon a time. Man....they really do put truth to the best team on paper means nothing.

Who wrote this list??? Tom Grace?

Cool that someone put this much time into this list. It was cool to read but... the selection seems a bit random especially. a guy like Randy McNaught is garbage he is hardly a CHL Level player. I guess they may have covered every AHL Contract guy but it still seems random to me.

Keith Aucoin as #2? You can tell WBS put together this list. Any other beat writer would have put Aucoin as #1 he makes a team that good.

I think Darren Haydar at #8 is hilarious. Maybe #108. He is getting older, playing fewer games and picking up more PIMs than he used to few years ago.

In Best of the Rest: Chris Cahill. He quit on the Admirals and supposedly retired!

Interesting list. I am a little dubious about the accuracy because I am not sure there are 250 'free agents' in the AHL per se. How do you rate a development bust that was on an AHL team because they couldn't make it with the big club and probably will sign in their home country.

Again, interesting, but not much beyond that.

Isn't it rare that after a guys rookie season he's a free agent?

It's even more funny to me a rookie heads the lst....

Chaz Johnson makes it on in the last category after???? really?

This list is more geared towards the lifers than development. So yeah Haydar is high.

No, it was written by Jonathan Bombluie, who is Tom Grace's newspaper equivalent.

How is Michael Leighton, who had a mediocre season, the top goalie free agent ahead of the AHL goalie of the year Yann Danis?

What about Marek Hrivik.. Does his ato continue into next season. He proved to be quite a nice free addition and defiantely earned some attention. Another mention, Tim Spencer..

I guess no one was good enough to be #20.....

And how many of these guys wee on NHL deals?

I applaud the effort but what classifies these players as AHL free agents as compared to NHL free agents?

54 LW MATT KASSIAN HOU 6-5, 250-pound heavyweight split season between Houston, Minnesota

Split season between Minny and Houston? So he is AHL free agent????

Under the best of the rest, I'm pretty sure Tyler Hostetter is signed with the Flyers/Phantoms through this year. He signed a a 3 year entry level deal before the 2010-2011 season his last in Erie. This past year 2011-2012 was his 1st year pro, so he has 1 year left which is 2012-2013. Probably would have spent most of the year in Addy, if it weren't for injuries.

Tim Spencer??? Is this a joke? I saw this guy for parts of 2 years in the E. It was a parade to the penalty box with him. I'm not talking about fights either. Stupid minor penalty after minor penalty. He would get beat all the time in 1 on 1 battles and stuff.

LOL Tom. Nobody was good enough to be #5, #9, #67, #69, #95, #100, #112, #115, #120, #127, #128, #166, #173, #212, #215, #231 and #247 either.

I admit i'm not a contract kind of a nerd but I wonder if they work at all like the ECHL in some aspects? Guys sometimes start up in the ECHL and then a team from the AHL asks for their services and they spend time like a week, month or more up there. Then might get released come clear day or playoff time. I guess what i'm hinting at is could a guy that starts on an AHL only contract get the call up to the NHL? Like an emergency situation or something? If he is sent back down is it like a waiver clearing thing or whatever? Maybe thats what happened. I mean Minnesota was pretty bad this year.

Why rip the guy? He put a lot of effort into this. The rankings are off, sure, but it's a good reference point for AHL fans during free agency.

This.

Also, please note he's asking for feedback, he's not saying the list is perfect.

Note, the blanks are places where people provided constructive feedback about players already under NHL or AHL or European contract for next season. He indicated in the post he will update the numbering closer to July 1 after he receives the feedback and makes edits. Also, he admits he sees the Eastern Conf. teams more.

It's not easy to make a list like this. Perhaps he'd be better off doing it in groupings and by position, but nothing easy about making a list like this and other than Booba's work on these boards with the contributions of some of us, there's nothing else like it out there that I know of at this time.

Oh, yeah.....obviously a Pens homer, because he put a guy from the CT. Whale first?

+1. Some people just aren't happy unless they are crapping on someone else. I may disagree with him on some ranks, but I tip my hat to the guy for doing the work and some research too.

I had only 2 changes suggested for the list of 250.

To play in the NHL, you have to be on and NHL contract.

They do have one day ATOs...other than that it's as Tommy Hawk posted, just NHL contracts can play in the NHL.

The Dallas Stars, announced Friday that the club has signed defenseman #111 Tyler Sloan to a one-year, two-way contract. So Milwaukee is down to 5 D-men, even with the signing of #113 Mike Moore.

The Chicago Wolves signed #8 (or #108 in my opinion) Darren Haydar for the third time in his career. It is a leadership move. I don't think Haydar scores 20 goals this season.
