I would like to see a dman signed
(Allen, Sarich, Wideman, of course Suter...hey a boy can dream)

I would also like to see a 3rd/4th line grinder and faceoff guy signed
(McClement, Gaustaud, Halpern, Carter, Betts, Konopka)

And finally a wigner that could play 2nd/3rd line minutes
(Jagr, Jokinen, Boyes, Hudler, Semin, and of course Parise or Doan)

The players mentioned are not in any order and fill those roles more or less. Some are better than others. Mostly it depends on cost and term for each. But those are really the big needs in Montreal right now as we wait for the prospects to devellop. Also, these are just guys I thought of off the top of my head. I realize there could be other plaers suited to those roles.

Note: This is also if there are NO trades made to fill these roles

Cap Geek says we got 25.5million free space.
Price and Subban are going to eat 10mill of that which leaves us with 15.5 million to spend.
Now if we could get Gomez 7.4mill off the books we would be back at around 23mill.
And if we could get Kaberle and Bourque off we would be sitting at 30mill.
Sure could change the look of this team real fast with those numbers.

The team absolutely needs at least one veteran D with some size and grit who can take up some of the PK slack left by Gill's departure. If we start the season relying on Weber, Kaberle and Diaz to be in the top 7, much less the top six, we can look forward to watching Subban, Emelin Markov and Price get run pretty much every game for another whole season. They're targets out there, we need someone who can protect them a little bit. I sure hope we don't rush Tinordi to fill a need he's not ready to fill yet.

If we want to be competitive, then we probably need to find someone more consistent than Borque to take a top six/2nd PP wing role.

Then we need a 4th line center and a little wing depth for the bottom line. Since they didn't qualify Blunden, the team's looking for someone else. I can't see Therrien being happy with using 2nd-rate top six talent like Palushaj in a grinding role he simply isn't built to handle.

I see the centers being DD/Plex/Eller to start the season on the top three lines. Not exactly dominant, but not fatal.

Hopefully T. Mitchell doesn't suck in a bottom-six role...

I don't think moving Bourque is the right plan. 1-his cap hit is low for a guy that has mutiple seasons of 25+ goals 2-let's give him a chance with the new administration 3-we won't get anything if we trade him now.

Gomez is a no brainer, I think he needs to be waived.

Kaberle, it will depend on how UFA plays out, I wouldn't be opposed to keeping him unless we need his cap room. I think he will also bounce back. This is a guy that's been a good NHL player for years and he probably wasn't too happy with his season last year overall. With Markov's situation we can keep him for half or 3/4 the year.

Yeah cause it's not like Boston won the cup with Kaberle on the roster.

Diaz is a good young player, showed nice things last year should be even better with a year under his belt, same for Emelin.

I'm hoping since Howson is such an idiot, he doesn't qualify Nikitin, and maybe we can trade for his rights.

Talk to any Bruin fan - he was a liability and they couldn't wait to get rid of him.

Must be why they made him an offer before he went UFA.

There are some interesting depth forwards available...I personally think the Habs need to rebuild the identity of their 3rd and 4th lines...some names I would consider

Jay Mclement, David Moss, Brandon Prust, Torrey Mitchell, Peter Mueller, Blake Comeau, Brad Winchester

And on defense...

Jason Garrison, Cory Sarich, Bryan Allen, M-A Gragnani, Denis Wideman

I don't understand Howson at all. He makes some very good moves - trading for Nikitin, the trade for Carter was a good one, acquiring Antoine Vermette. He then makes up for it with abysmal ones - Being married to Steve Mason in goal, trading Carter for Jack Johnson, trading Antoine Vermette for a magic bean. Guy's all over the place.

Nikitin would be a terrific pickup though.

As for defense you are bang on we need a defenseman that has some sandpaper to his game I would suggest adding Aleen as well and if we couldn't sign him I would go with O'Brien/ Brookbank,or even Carkner.

As for forwards I think we need to sign 4. 3 wingers one that can play on the top 2 lines / one that will bring some grit to the bottom 2 lines/ and a goon. Plus a fourth line centre.
If I was gm I would try to add 1 of Doan/Whitney/Jagr to play with Pleks and Gionta.

I would sign Moen to play on the bottom 2 lines but if I couldn't sign him I would look at adding 1 of... Purst/Glass/Asham.

For the fourth line centre job I would sign 1 of McClement/ Carter/ Konopka.

and for the role of enforcer I would sign 1 of McGratton/Parros/Kassain/Scott.

Your forwards are beauty. Your defence is meh- Carkner isn't a hockey player. And maybe go with Jagr for Plek since you can get him on a one-year deal instead of long term like PA or Semin

"According to Darren Dreger at TSN, the Bruins have emailed the rest of the league regarding a potential trade for the negotiating rights to Tomas Kaberle prior to the July 1st UFA deadline. This would seem to signal a parting of ways between the team and their biggest deadline acquisition in years. But could it also foreshadow the defending Stanley Cup Champions thoughts on the coming Free Agency period?"

They got no offers.

Yeah, Carkner isn't all that good, but with him on his right, Emelin will simply destroy everything. After the Malone incident, he wasn't the same, maybe it has to do with him playing on the right instead of the left, but whatever, Carkner will protect Emelin agaisnt bigger team, against other team Emelin and Diaz will play together, they were great together last year.

I had a dream that we traded Subban to Edmonton for Eberle, Jones, and Petry. I was on TSN reading about the trade and there was a picture of Subban in an Oilers home jersey. It felt SO real though... First thing I did when I woke up was check my phone to see if the trade actually happened.

2.9 for a 4th line centerman?

What will Prust cost to sign?

And what will Ott cost to acquire?

I dunno, like the sounds of that line but it might be kind of unrealistic.

Yeah, that would be a dream trade.

Anyone hear anything about Semin? Does he want to stay in the NHL?

The following year, we don't bring back Jagr and call up Galchenyuk. Let him center the 2nd line. Work out a deal for Kane.

Next year will also show that we need to move on from Gionta because Gallagher will be ready for the big show and we can't possibly have those two and Desharnais. Our youth movement will have us trade Gionta.

Kane - Plekanec - Cole
Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Desharnais
Moen - Eller - Gallagher
Prust - Ott - White

Markov - Emelin
Gorges - Subban
Tinordi - Beaulieu

me
Price

Pipeline (some likely dealt in the deal for Kane):
Bournival
Leblanc
Collberg
Kristo
Ellis

Further along:
Nystrom
Bozon
Thrower
