Don't see the point in acquiring Nash anymore unless they are truly sold on JVR playing centre which I think is unlikely.

Why would he sign where there is not a proven #1 goalie behind him? He will get paid the same for his ELC no matter where he plays. It's his next contract where he will be paid on his history of NHL play. Not having a #1 goalie behind him will hurt his numbers, and thus, his next contract.

Would you talk to your close friend and ex. University partner about the current team's goalie circumstance? YES. Would you be happy with the answer? NO. Considering this, would you want to play in front of an unproven, and young goalie, especially if it is your ELC? NO. To make maximum dollar on his next contract he would want an experienced, and proven #1 goalie behind him, one who would make him look good, when the need arises. One who would allow him to move forward and join the attack, increasing his potential for points.

If the Leafs are going to have any chance of signing Schultz, Luongo needs to be in the net first. I hope I am wrong, and Schultz will come anyway, but I would be more positive with the goalie circumstance corrected.
I agree with you, but on the other hand, if Edmonton really is the other major option... They have the exact same problems as you pointed out.

Good point. Considering that Toronto and Edmonton do not have proven #1 goalies in place, which teams are left that would make a good fit for his next 3 years? Vancouver is not a good fit; he would not get enough playing time.

Yet, the logic of Montreal (considering Shult's previous comments: opportunity to play, hockey market) coupled with Cary Price in goal makes a lot of sense.

I do think, if Luongo was already a Leaf, Schultz would come to Toronto. That still may be true, but Montreal seems to have all the components Toronto offers, plus the goalie. CRAP!

Minus Gardiner and Burke drafting him.. The things that are having us contend.

Is Burke in a Catch 22? No Schultz without a proven #1 goalie. No proven #1 goalie without giving up Gardiner. (Apparently this is the stumbling block to attain Luongo. The Canucks want Gardiner, and Burke is saying no.) Or, is Gillis thinking that his chances of attaining Schultz decrease, if Luongo is traded to Toronto prior to July 1st., so he is asking a price he knows Burke will most likely not meet. And if Burke did agree, then Gillis gets Gardiner, and he increases his chances for Schultz. Considering this, there is no way Luongo is traded to Toronto until. Schultz makes a decision.

It is fascinating stuff for discussion.

I would think Schultz just wants playing time. He wants a place where he can get big minutes, so he can get a bigger contract down the line

if Vancouver gets Gardiner, that's less time for Schultz to play.

His best bet is probably Edmonton. Guaranteed big minutes.

Oh Schultz was drafted by current Leafs GM Brian Burke?
Oh Schultz has attended training camps led by current head coach Randy Carlyle?
Oh Schultz roomed with and played beside current Leaf Jake Gardiner?
Oh Schultz's agent also represents Leafs and is situated in Toronto?
Oh Schultz's agent hates Lowe?

He's definitely going to Edmonton

We have Gardiner and that is our ace in the whole......along with offering him playing together with him.

I say it is better than 60% he signs with us.

I think striking out on all three might be the best thing that could happen.

Nash - We won't get him... Howson asking too much, Burkie won't pay up! And that's a good thing!

Luongo - Painful contract.. if the asking price doesn't come down, Burkie won't pay up for him either... plus he wants to go back to Florida!

Schultz - Edmonton gonna push hard for him.. i get the feeling he doesn't wanna go there! Toronto or Vancouver may be where he lands!

I've come to expect that these kind of players won't come to Toronto unless it's by means of a trade. It's just better to have low expectations.

Didn't think any are realistically coming to Toronto anyways.

Luo goes to FLA
Schultz to Edmonton
Nash to: Neverland!

Not sure if this has already been said...I can't be bothered to read the threads half the time anymore...makes me long for the good ole' days....

Anyway, I guess Schultz is intriguing and all that BUT what about Jesse Blacker??

I mean, he is a great skater...good shot....lovs to rush the puck....a little wild but I've gotta think he's farther ahead on the development scale than Schultz, no matter what right?

In terms of how these players were viewed (when junior), they were both second round picks. Assuming Gardiner is going to be the stud some day and then you've got Rielly and Percy in there, I'm just sayin' that maybe you don't need Schultz so bad in light of the fact that Blacker is kicking around too.

It's nice that other cities are so obsessed with us. Does the Star or Sun write articles about the other Canadian teams like this?

This is a negative Leaf article. Porn for Toronto haters out West.

(for those concerned about cap next year - trade or demote both Komi and Army and it would work)
As it has been said at least 100 times already, you cannot demote Komi.

lol what is this correlation between a proven goalie and Schultz wanting to sign? We are making huge leaps in guessing what's going through this kid's head.
