whoever it was ^^^^^^ there that said pens will sign parise and semin...that is possible

BUT BUT BUT with the going reports and speculation that shero is going to sign crosby to a long-term deal set at around 9-10 mil is going to completely **** your chances of getting parise or suter, plus having to get malkin signed up as well

Semin will be smart and let a team sign parise first so after he knows it's gonna be much easier to get the contract he's looking for unless of course he wants a cup, center and top minutes then Ull be looking at Pittsburgh or Detroit

Pens have $14.6 million in cap space at the moment.

Crosby is reportedly either taking the same cap hit as he currently has or $300k more per year to make it $9m per. Malkin would be doing the same and has already indicted he's interested in signing long term in Pittsburgh. So that would be an additional $600k between Crosby and Malkin.

Still would leave $14.3m in cap space this year since Malkin's contract wouldn't kick in until a year after. Not to mention Shero has said he's getting calls on Martin ($5m) and Kennedy could also be a casualty of Shero's revamp ($2m).

Signing Parise isn't going to kill us. We offered Staal 10 years $60 million. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't offer Parise $70-$75 million over 10 years.

Semin being centered by Datsyuk or Malkin is a guaranteed star player. People can hate on him, his being moody, non-communicative in English and fighting like an epileptic pre-teen girl, but the fact remains.
On both the Wings and Pens he would also be an ace in the hole on the left boards of then lethal power plays. He'd additionally be covered in terms of not having any big PR responsibilities as both teams have other stars/reference points who can handle that. With Lidström gone, Pens more so of course.

I don't think the Pens are really in on him because we have a strong North American personality/work ethics component (for good and bad), but should Parise move elsewhere, Semin is obviously too good a player (and other UFA options too poor in general) for interest not to be piqued. More so if Whitney is off the boards.

NB: I wonder if Babcock would actually like to have Semin? He would probably get something good out of him if Holland went and signed him, but it is my impression that Babcock actually wants more toughness/character guys rather than more finesse. More of a blend of the Red Wings way and what he had in Anaheim.

The best fit for Semin to skyrocket his value is to play for the NYI. 2 yr 15-16 million. He would score 50 easily on Taveras's wing regardless of what his +/- looked like. The NYI have - players so it would be hidden but Semin scoring 50-60 would overshadow everything. I'm a die hard NYR fan and thats how good I believe Taveras can make a sniper like Semin. If Matt Moulson can score 30 with with Taveras Semin can easily score 50.

Or he could you know.......sign with a good team that has even better players than Tavares....like Pitt or Detroit.

Wish Vancouver pushes hard for Semin, even though there's no way Gillis would be open to even negotiating with him. We haven't really had a skilled winger with a nice shot since Naslund left (besides Sedin). He'd provide some needed secondary scoring.

Word is the Minnesota Wild have been pursuing him for a number of years now. But he has continued to re-up with the Capitals. My sources say the Wild will be front runners in the Semin Sweepstakes now that he has given up hope in Washington.

Also, what you people don't know is that the Capitals have implanted a special device in Semin's cerebral cortex. If he's outside the DC area when training camp starts, he will start to experience disorientation, nausea, muscle atrophy, paralysis, loss of curl-n-drag motor skills, and finally, coma (from which he'll wake up for two weeks every year to play for Russia in the WC, plus Sochi).

So, don't get excited...

Yeah, I think he goes to Detroit and scores 50 goals next season.

I dont think the Penguins would try to sign both Parise and Semin but if The Penguins fail to sign ZP I could see Semin as one of the fallback options. The Pens will bring in a top 6 winger to play with Sid, the question is just who that will be (with ZP most likely being Shero's preference).

Although I'd love for the Flyers to try and land Parise, Semin would be a great plan B for Giroux.

I know, a team that has proven it is a contender for 20+ years, and a team that has only been relevant since they were so bad they picked in the Top 2 for four straight drafts, yielding two of the best players in the world. You are right, there is no comparison.

If a team is truly making an effort to win the Stanley Cup, he is irrelevant as a player. If he stays in the NHL it will be in a city where the team is not at all close to winning. (Toronto? Just kidding, I am a Leaf's fan who feels the team is headed in the wrong direction.)
