+1. Do the leafs have any dmen that are on their game and meeting expectations?
Yet to be seen is how JVR will handle being in the hotbed of a desperate, frustrated and over the top hockey market.

I think we have to see how things play out the next couple of seasons to see who wins this one-I think right now things may look to be even in that both teams seem to have something they wanted.

Not sure Toronto can afford to give up more defense though-so their fans should hope they intend to address it through more trades/signings (as a Bruins fan I am okay with Toronto having a weak defense).

The Flyers need somebody who can fill Pronger's shoes and Schenn right now isn't it and I have doubts that he ever will be. Flyers however, do have a stable of young, talented forwards and could afford to trade JVR without hurting themselves.

Never understood the JVR love. The guy had a good two weeks that one time in the playoffs but other than that he is a walking injury.

I personally think a change of scenery for Schenn will do good things for him.

I think this is a big win for the Flyers.

JVR's contract is absolutely BRUTAL. Also, he's not very good and he's starting to develop quite the injury history.

Schenn was terrible last year but showed flashes of top pairing talent 2 years ago. Being that he's only 22 and that dmen take longer to develop, I say Philly wins in a landlslide even if Schenn turns out to just be average because they were able to dump JVR's awful contract.

If you think his contract is bad, you should check out Grabovski's. Lot of money up front for one line in Toronto.

Grabovski is definitely overpaid but he's probably Toronto's most consistent forward outside of Kessel and they had to pay him big bucks because of their weakness at center.

Taking on JVRs contract is just a boneheaded move IMO.

In 2018 when JVR is still making 4.25, it'll probably be a steal unless of course injuries derail his career.

Just dropped in to get the Boston perspective on the former UNH player.

Very good read.

Boston fans know hockey.

(Except for the guy putting down Toronto's defensive depth...)

don cherry is a beauty

Don Cherry ‏@CoachsCornerCBC
Luke is a good kid. Wish him luck in Philly. JVR shows flashes of talent, seems to play when he wants, could be good but he's not a hitter or a blocker. He's American though so he'll fit right in, in Toronto

Agreed with Cherry except for the part where he says JVR could be good.
