Assistant coach Adam Oates was named head coach of the Washington Capitals today and assistant coach Larry Robinson is considering retirement or a return to his past position as special assignment coach.
General manager Lou Lamoriello said Robinson hasn't decided an what he wants to do.
"Not yet. We haven't really spoken to him about it," Lamoriello said. "He's giving thought to what he wants to do. Pete (DeBoer) and Dave Barr are set, but I don't know what Larry's status is and where he's at.
He coached new jersey to TWO Stanley Cup finals, ex Hab, speak French, more character than most humans could tolerate, hall of fame defensman, respect of his peers and the league. Any reason why he wouldn't be the best guy for the job other than because he'd be a better coach than Therrien and Therrien wouldn't want to be in Larry's shadow?
Why not give him the best of both worlds, make him some kinda assistant but tell him you only have to work with the D when the team is home for practices. Don't have to travel when they go on the road. Could sorta be like a semi retirement
