just listening to the two morons on NESN, you would think White was getting beat up.. Boychuk is pretty angry right now... for sure he's getting his butt kicked! LOL
while I do think White will develop into a regular and a guy deserving of a multi-year deal, in this case given his injuries last season and very limited track record beyond that, I think it's a great signing.
very small cap hit for a guy who could/should be an every night player for us... if he does manage that (be it in a 4th or 3rd line role), next summer he should be looking at a 2-3 year deal with a significant raise.
hope he has a great summer of training and stays healthy to start the season... i think he's got an upside to him that could surprise a lot of people.
as a jr player, he enjoyed lots of success despite a poor work ethic/conditioning, relying on hockey sense and puck skills to be an elite player in the WHL... that he's re-branded himself as a workhorse and a guy willing to do whatever it takes allowed him to make the NHL jump relatively quickly, now it's a question of wether the skills/hockey sense find a way to translate to the NHL level... i think they eventually will, but time will tell.
Nice ! enjoy his game alot. He does have some point scoring history going back to his junior days, could he get 20 - 30 playing 4th line minutes with some 3rd line duty thrown in the mix? I think so.
Ha, good timing. I was just thinking about White in the Thrower thread. Thrower has the kind of fearless attitude I saw in White when we drafted him- the kind of personality that makes it in pro hockey even if his skills don't really translate.
Is White still RFA next year?
With our current CBA rules, if White plays over 10 NHL games, he will be an RFA.
I like him, but am I the only one to think he is a tad overrated? He got a standard deal, he hasn't proven much. He still has a boatload of stuff to work on. He's good for now, but he isn't unreplaceable.

A fun guy to have, glad it's not much more. I much prefer White to some other options, he still has work to do.
BTW... doesn't a 1 year contract at his age seem like a bit of a kick out the door? It could just be that he's not a "core" member of this team and isgoing to be playing year to year.

No, It's pretty standard practice for a player coming off an injury filled season. Stop reading so much into things.
White is one guy I wouldn't be surprised at all seeing getting much better in a few years. Right now he's mostly pencilled as a 4th line energy player, but every time I see him play, I can't help to notice how confident he appears in the offensive zone compared to the average plumber. It's obvious the guy knows how to play hockey, he just doesn't have the elite offensive skills typically needed for an offensive role in the NHL.
But give him a few years of experience, give him the right opportunity completing a pair of skilled players, and I think he could raise a few eyebrows. IMO, he's way more skilled than guys like Begin or Lapierre.
