Apparently one from a "traditional" market.

I realize Sens fans probably don't know much about the cup...but I hope this is a joke.

No, I believe that's how you can tell the difference between the Presentation Cup and the replica. The 'original-original' (i.e. the one donated by Lord Stanley) is just the bowl so it doesn't have the same spelling mistakes, or things like Peter Pocklington's dad XXXX'ed out because there are no rings.

As for what would happen if the Cup were ever lost or stolen, any soccer fan would tell you that you'd need to enlist the help of Pickles the dog.

That name isn't on the bowl portion, either.

Here's the original w/other "retired" pieces of it inside the vault at the HHOF:

No, the Cup donated by Lord Stanley was retired (last used in 1970). The "Presentation Cup" is the Stanley Cup used now, which was created in 1963 but first used in 1971, has the mistakes on it. The replica is the one used in the HHOF, which doesn't have mistakes on it, is only shown on display at the HHOF when the Presentation Cup is somewhere else, like in an arena or wherever.

This is kind of random, but are there any videos or photos of the process? I'd like to see what the cup looks like "taken apart".

Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan and Bo Jackson would have to fight to get it back.

There was an episode about some guy stealing the cup, but I can't find it.

In 1905, drunken members of the Ottawa Silver Seven thought it would a good celebratory idea to punt the Cup into the Rideau Canal. No one rescued out of the chilly waters until the next day.

Well if you go way back you can see the Cup, being presented, pre the
rings of the current diameter. I believe the Cup, Lord Stanley gave
is only about a foot long or so.

Beckham is right...it is gargantuan....now.

Look how small the First Cup was....look way down

Actually...the original is even shorter.

The Stanley Cup has been destroyed on many occasions already.

The 80's Oilers teams partied with that thing harder than anyone, and caused a lot of damage and dents which needed repair. in 1924 the Montreal Canadians left the cup in a snowbank on the side of the road. Mark Messier was rumoured to have damaged the cup partying with it after the rangers 94 win, and Darien Hatcher reportedly broke the cup throwing it off a balcony into an empty swimming pool at the drummer for Pantera's house in the 90's after Dallas' win. (He didn't know the pool was empty.)

(edit: I guess it was guy carbonneau not hatcher).

Speaking of the Oilers, why is Basil Pocklington's name, crossed out?

If the cup ever gets flattened, it can be the Flat Stanley Cup. It travels around just like Flat Stanely.

He was Peter Pocklington's father, but had no association with the team.

Pretty much this. Obviously it's not the same if you don't get to lift 35 pounds of silver of your head at the end of it all, but the reward doesn't change the accomplishment.

Hey, we have eleven Stanley Cup banners hanging from the roof of our barn from when Wilfrid Laurier was Prime Minister
